Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Museum of the North is seeking a Sales Lead to join our Visitor Services department. Visitor Services encompasses all things relating to visitor experience at UAMN, from the friendly and knowledgeable people greeting visitors at the front desk, to the exciting movies shown in our theater, to the unique and high-quality merchandise found in the museum store. The Sales Lead is responsible for daily operations of the Museum Admissions desk and the Museum Store. The museum is a fascinating place to work. On any given day, a 40,000 year old bison skeleton might be being assembled or a humpback whale that washed ashore could be being prepared for exhibition or artifacts from the earliest human inhabitants of the state might be being examined. Duties:

15Handle opening and closing procedures, including: balancing computer registers, opening safe/verifying cash and change funds, opening and securing all galleries and public spaces, building security. Greet and advise tour companies of hours and guest opportunities while visiting.Essential
25Responsible for training all museum admission attendants in: point of sale system, customer service, sales techniques, staff directory and multi-line phone system. Trains each attendant in departmental security protocols. Responsible for the on-going training of admission attendants in customer service, sales, theater operations. Be a primary resource for all museum attendants in the areas of museum admission, daily programs, tours, events and gallery security. Be a secondary resource for attendants in the areas of store merchandise, receiving, stocking, cleaning, pricing and merchandising. Other duties as assigned including evening events, weekends and holidays.Essential
60Primary point of contact for all guests and departmental visitors entering the museum. Provide exceptional customer service to visitors through admission, theater sales, and exhibit interpretation. Provide accurate information about museum galleries, exhibits, scheduled movies and events. Must be knowledgeable about museum store merchandise and international laws regarding transport of Native art. Provide service for educational programs and hands on material. Provide service for museum membership program.Essential

Term Position:

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
