Position Summary:

The Office of the Registrar is seeking a Credentials Evaluation Specialist to join our transfer credit team. This position will work closely with the School of Management and will focus on SOM students.


10ARTICULATION AGREEMENTS Support the School of Management’s recruitment efforts by articulating targeted transfer programs. Maintain a balance between evaluating transcripts and working on articulation agreements, per SOM’s direction.Essential
10COORDINATE WITH GRADUATION SERVICES Assist Graduation Services with backup support for SOM students as required. MAINTAIN RECORDS AND POLICIES Maintain confidentiality of records as required by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Provide feedback to departmental leadership on the transfer credit process: identify areas of possible improvement and offer suggestions for solutions. Work with transfer teams at UAA and UAS to improve the transferability of UA coursework.Essential
15COMMUNICATE WITH STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF Assist students, faculty, and staff with questions or issues related to transfer credit, especially as it pertains to SOM. Communicate transfer credit equivalency decisions to students and advisors; explain catalog language related to transfer credit, assist in problem-solving where issues arise. Serve as a specialist on all SOM-related inquiries regarding transferability of credits, coursework, test scores, and non-traditional credit, including credit for certificates. Work with faculty as needed for course approvals within their departments. Maintain dialogue with other UAF and UA Transfer Credit team members to promote efficient exchange of information.Essential
5SYSTEMS TESTING, MAINTENANCE AND PROJECTS Assist the transfer credit team with in-depth testing for regular system upgrades to our administrative programs (Banner, OnBase, etc). Participate in University of Alaska statewide transfer credit work team meetings.Essential
60REVIEW, EVALUATE AND POST TRANSFER CREDIT This position will focus on evaluations for students entering the School of Management (SOM). SOM will provide training and ongoing direction for this position. Attend regularly scheduled SOM team meetings; meet as needed with individual SOM staff/faculty to set or adjust priorities based on the School’s needs. Review, research, and evaluate transcripts submitted from other universities and colleges. Research the accreditation status, grading system, course descriptions, and degree program contexts for each institution from which a course is being transferred; post approved credits on UAF transcript. Evaluate and post transfer work from non-traditional sources, including AP, CLEP and DSST exams, licenses and certificates, military service, and prior learning experiences.Essential

The UAF Office of the Registrar is hiring a Credentials Evaluation Specialist to perform evaluations and articulations to support the School of Management’s outreach program. In addition to the evaluation of coursework from other regionally accredited institutions, evaluators review and post credit for advanced placement testing, credit for military educational experience, and license and certificate credit. Evaluators are responsible for maintaining a high output of work while providing excellent customer service in person, by phone, and by email. Research and problem-solving skills are a must, along with strong communication skills.


Demonstrated computer skills with a PC in a Windows environment; ability to adapt to new technologies and computer systems; sufficient computer knowledge to learn relational database maintenance; knowledge of accurate data entry procedures; excellent customer service skills. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to adapt to changing policies and procedures.

Typical Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience working in a post-secondary education student services or equivalent customer service environment. Experience in analyzing and solving problems, multi-tasking, working independently, and as a member of a team. Computer, data entry experience.

Required Education or Training:

Associate degree and two or more years of relevant experience in a postsecondary education student services or customer service environment, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.

This is a term-funded, full-time, Grade 77, minimum $21.81 hourly, DOE, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
