Position Summary:

The Green Bikes Program is a student-funded, student-run program overseen by the Office of Sustainability. Green Bikes Mechanics maintain bikes and create/implement programming focused on sustainable transportation. Job duties include repairing and maintaining bikes owned by the program, teaching customers how to repair their own bikes, following safety protocol, keeping the bike shop clean, running the rental program and developing programs and events focused on sustainable transportation like guided bike rides, workshops, movie nights, and more.

Duties:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Required: an interest in bicycles, bike mechanics and sustainability; the ability to maintain a clean & safe bike shop; an ability to work independently and with others; basic problem-solving skills; the ability to provide quality customer service; the interest in doing some bike-centered outreach on campus and in the community such as movie nights, group rides, and more. 

Required Experience:

No experience with bike mechanics is required, just the ability to learn and an interest in bikes!

Experience in customer service, biking, bike mechanics and outreach helpful but not required.

Required Education or Training:

Training is provided.

This is a Student Assistant C position; minimum starting pay $10.50 hourly

Applicants must be enrolled as UAF students taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student.

REVIEW DATE:

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year and students may apply for the position all year. When the department needs to fill a position, they review the current “pool” and call students for interviews. Students who were not hired for one position still remain in the pool for other positions.
