Position Summary:

The UAA School of Social Work is holding an open recruitment for adjunct instructors who are interested in expanding their practice to include part-time teaching in undergraduate and graduate social work programs.

Duties:

100Adjunct faculty members are responsible for teaching one or more BSW and/or MSW courses in a manner consistent with the specific Course Content Guide that guides a particular course. Adjunct faculty are expected to attend training, communicate regularly with program staff, and hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught. All adjunct faculty are responsible for teaching online or through web-based formats. The School of Social Work will support temporary faculty in using such formats.Essential

Position Summary
The School of Social Work is seeking applicants for its adjunct labor pool. The School is dedicated to providing strong and innovative Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) curricula that encourage lifelong learning, critical thinking, and effective professional social work practice that address the needs of Alaska. Due to COVID mandates and safety, the BSW program is distanced delivered at this time. Additionally, the MSW program is continuing distance education delivery to students across Alaska. We are seeking applicants to teach distance-delivered BSW and MSW courses.

Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute a hiring agreement, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available in subsequent semesters. Hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis, according to the needs of that semester's schedule, and needs that arise during the course of a given semester. We seek to identify talented adjunct faculty the School of Social Work can invest in, provide training and mentoring to prior and during instruction, and establish long term working relationships to enhance the diversity and practice experience of our collective faculty for the benefit of our students and programs.

Required Experience
Applicants must have experience relevant to teaching specific course content in one or more of the following BSW and MSW curricular areas: human diversity; human behavior in the social environment; social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and/or communities; case management; social work research; social work program evaluation; and social welfare policy.

Required Education
A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree is required to teach practice courses. A MSW or a master's degree in a closely related discipline is required to teach other courses (i.e., diversity, policy, human behavior, research, program evaluation). A Doctorate degree in Social Work or a closely related field is preferred.

Application
Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment. Qualifying earned degrees must be conferred either by institutions of higher education which are accredited by one of the six US regional accrediting associations or by an equivalent international institution of higher education as determined by UAA based on a review by a foreign educational credential evaluation service and recognized by UAA. Applicants must be residents of the state of Alaska or have substantial experience teaching or practicing in Alaska. Successful applicants must also complete a background check.
