Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is seeking qualified individuals to fill a full-time, term, bipartite position starting Spring semester 2021. UAA’s Construction Management program is part of the Building Technologies Division housed within the University’s Community & Technical College. The Construction Management program is fully accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) and enjoys strong community and professional support.

Duties:

20Service Service to the Department, the College, and/or the University is required. This service may include curriculum development, service on committees, or other service as approved by the Department Chair. Service to the design and construction industry and community is encouraged.Essential
80Teaching This position carries a full-time instructional workload during the school year. The incumbent will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in a manner consistent with the specific course content description. Faculty are expected to provide academic counseling to students, hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught, be proactive in developing and modifying curriculum for delivery and other teaching modalities, participate in program assessment, and provide assessment data. Courses may include, but are not limited to: CADD including AutoCAD Civil 3D; Revit (BIM); structural design; construction project management; project planning, and scheduling; Primavera 6; building and civil cost estimating; building management; soils in construction; construction law.Essential

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Graduate degree in Construction Management, Engineering Management, Architecture or related field. Construction Management Certification, Responsible Management position in construction firm, –or- Architectural or Engineering registration preferred. Online course development and teaching experience. Demonstrated experience with community business outreach. Ability to teach department courses identified with content knowledge in construction supervision, project management/scheduling, building codes, site surveying, architecture, civil engineering concepts, commercial construction techniques and understanding of steel and concrete structures. Ability to integrate appropriate computer technology including building information modeling (BIM), and construction scheduling/job control software into the curriculum. Ability to integrate sustainable building technology into the curriculum. Experience with cold climate construction conditions. Commitment to excellence in teaching, demonstrated teaching experience appropriate to the level of appointment, and evidence of scholarly/creative activity. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, peers in the profession and community. A comprehensive knowledge of the construction process, procedures, project controls, and industry, all as required to teach the courses listed.

Required Experience:
Minimum Qualifications: Requires a Master's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering Management, Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline.
OR
A Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related discipline, with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in the construction industry. Of this experience a minimum of seven (7) years must be in a position of responsible charge as a construction or project manager.

Typical Education or Training:
Requires a Master's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering Management, Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline.
OR
A Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related discipline, with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in the construction industry. Of this experience a minimum of seven (7) years must be in a position of responsible charge as a construction or project manager.
