Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Fairbanks, Community and Technical College is looking for part time adjunct instructors for our Automotive, Diesel/Heavy Equipment and/or Welding programs. 100- The incumbent will be responsible for teaching one or more undergraduate courses in a manner consistent with UAF Faculty Senate guidelines and the specific course catalog description. - Adjunct faculty are expected to participate annually in scheduled mandatory initial organization or orientation meetings and are required to complete UAF mandatory trainings within the specified period of time. - Duties include instructing, advising, and assessing/grading students in the identified subject matter in alignment with UAF policies and procedures and direction from faculty program coordinators. - Duties include developing a course outline, syllabus, teaching materials, and tests or other assessment methods consistent with UAF policies and procedures.Essential

Flexible schedules are available as classes can meet during the daytime, evenings, weekends and/or online.

No prior teaching experience is required, however, the ability to work with a diverse student population, be adaptable to varying needs of students, and follow schedules and procedures while exhibiting a professional attitude are a must.  Strong multi-tasking abilities, good communication skills and good interpersonal skills are also preferred.

The persons selected for these positions should have a minimum of 5 years experience in the repair/maintenance of automotive, heavy equipment, truck, welding or similar industry experience.  Additional requirements:

Automotive:  ASE Certified in Engine Repair, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating & Air Conditioning and Engine Performance.

Welding: Practical and theoretical knowledge of welding processes and techniques in stick, gas, MIG, TIG and/or fabrication.

Adjunct faculty / part-time instructors may develop course outlines, syllabi, teaching materials, and tests as needed, and will teach and advise students.  This is a hands-on learning environment with classes being held mostly during the evenings from 4-9 pm, and some Saturday classes also available. Adjunct positions are on a semester-by-semester contract basis.

UAF CTC employs a diverse population of approximately 30 full-time faculty and 200 adjunct faculty who are represented by two unions and a staff of about 40. Approximately 3300 students attend UAF CTC. They are culturally diverse and include many non-traditional students and students from the military community.  

Staff and faculty have forged close ties with businesses and local agencies, enhancing instruction, increasing job placements and working together to help make Alaska a better place to live, work, learn and recreate.
