Position Summary:

As a Student Assistant for UA Human Resources, you will help with the day-to-day HR-related functions of the university. The Human Resources Student Pool is open to currently enrolled University of Alaska students across the system. Duties:

This is a pooled position that may be employed at any of the University of Alaska campuses, depending upon need. 

Basic duties may include answering phones and taking messages, handling incoming and outgoing office mail, responding to general inquiries for information, managing a general email account, photocopying materials as needed for department staff, and various other tasks and projects as assigned.

This is a student pool position and applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis during the year. Successful submission of an application does not guarantee employment. Successful applicants will be contacted as positions become available.

Please note that the student pool is open to currently enrolled students within the system. When applying please submit a resume, cover letter indicating your preferred work location, and three (3) professional references.

To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must: 

A) Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or

B) Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and

C) Have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer of the Senior Student Services officer.

D) An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Ability to operate office equipment (scanners, printers, copiers etc.). Basic knowledge of computers and work productivity software (MS Word, Excel, e-mail, etc.). Good written/verbal communication skills.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Prior work in an office setting preferred.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Must be a currently enrolled University of Alaska student at any campus. Preferred student who has completed some coursework in either accounting, bookkeeping, human resources or a business studies program.

Probationary Period:

Pursuant to University Regulation 04.07.020, new employees of the University are employed in an at-will probationary status for the first six months of employment. During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason. Promoted employees also serve a probationary period with limited rights of retreat.
