Position Summary:

Nanook Recreation's Patty Ice Arena team is looking for UAF students to join the Patty Ice Customer Service Team! Work on a fun team in a fun place! This position is based in the Patty Ice Arena where you will be the first point of contact for all things ice as well as vital in maintaining a welcoming and clean environment for ice users. Having a great experience at the Patty Ice Rink for all customers is of the utmost importance!

Duties:

Nanook Recreation's Patty Ice Arena team is looking for UAF students to join the Patty Ice Customer Service Team!

Position Summary:

Flexible hours, early mornings, late nights, and weekends may be required.

General supervision of ice arena including: monitoring of building and users, minor building and equipment repairs, minor building clean up as needed or assigned, operation of Zamboni ice resurfacing machine, minor maintenance and cleaning of Zamboni, operation of skate sharpener and ice edging machine, changing of Zamboni propane tanks, set up of arena - including score clock and lifting and moving of hockey goals on the ice, monitoring of arena mechanical equipment, provide customer service to user groups, enforce rink rules and procedures.

Duties also include answering the phone calls, answering questions about ice arena programs & events, distributing, collecting, maintaining, & sharpening ice rental skates, assisting in supervising public skating sessions, operating the Point of Sales cash register, opening & closing the rink, driving the zamboni, and handing out locker room keys, & other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • All Team Members, regardless of position, will be expected to provide an outstanding customer experience for every customer.
  • Accept instructions and work cooperatively with ice users.
  • All Team Members are responsible for ongoing housekeeping duties throughout the facility.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a skate sharpener

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • A good mechanical aptitude with some knowledge of machinery.
  • Ensure all areas of the facility are kept clean and safe, and put items away in their proper place.
  • Proper operation and use of driving a zamboni for ice resurfacing

Typical Experience:

  • Enjoy greeting people and demonstrate a high energy level with an outgoing personality.
  • Have excellent customer service skills
  • Be a team player

Required Education, Training, other:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Understand the importance of dependability & organization
  • Have a valid driver's license
  • CPR/1st aid certified or willing to become certified.
  • Current UAF student in good standing

Review Date:

As this is a position with multiple spots to fill, there will likely be multiple review dates throughout the academic year.  We will review applications when there is an operational need to do so.

Student Employment Qualifications:

This position is for UAF students, therefore applicants must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during the fall or spring semester, whichever is current or next, and have a GPA of at least 2.0 or a newly enrolled student.
