Duties:

20Administers the Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering departmental budget and assists in the preparation of the ICS operating and project budgets; forecasts additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors and approves expenditures; primary responsibility for operating and reporting cloud billing software packages; and implements mid-year adjustments. Projects needs for upgrading platforms, environments or software; discerns applicability of new technologies; makes recommendations concerning the selection and purchase of cloud or database software packages, vendor products or services; Consults with users and other IT departments, as appropriate.Essential
20Guides and manages lower level managerial, professional, classified, and apprentice-level technical staff in the development and delivery of infrastructure, cloud platforms, and databases. Develops annual employee mentoring and work plans. Coordinates staff technical training. Makes hiring decisions, evaluates performance, provides staff feedback and administers corrective action when necessary. Develop or supervise the development of multi-departmental system project management activities involving the full daily supervision of work team leaders, equipment purchases and set-up, technical problem resolution and associated coordination of interdepartmental and personnel communications.Essential
20Serves as one of the primary spokespersons for infrastructure, cloud and database systems management; negotiates contracts and services in all IT department-responsible areas. Serves as a strategic advisor to executive directors and upper management, is an authority on matters pertaining to cloud (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) and database services. Works under long-range administrative direction. Directs and plans activities and functions involving multiple business functions (cloud platform and database environment), programs or projects. Directs lower level managers, and professional, classified, and apprentice-level staff in developing and implementing cloud based platforms and systems, enterprise database management systems and operating programs.Essential
40Responsible for planning and directing the activities of a highly technical staff of Infrastructure Engineers, Cloud Engineers and Database Administrators. Supervises the work of Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering staff by facilitating and tracking project status; identifying problems and issues; allocating appropriate resources and ensuring that technical support services are completed on schedule and at the highest levels of quality. Assists staff in the delivery of technical services as necessary and appropriate. Manage, establish goals, and assign workload to lower level managerial, professional, classified, and apprentice-level technical staff. Directs staff activities in reviewing, operating, and maintaining the operating systems and the administration, development or enhancement of various cloud platform and database management systems. Consults with executive directors, upper management, and departmental users to identify cloud platform and database requirements; sets priorities; directs assigned staff in the development of new applications, functions, feature sets of new services, or systems operations. Develops and implements standards, policies and procedures related to both system-wide and enterprise cloud and database systems and operations.Essential

Skillset/Experience:

As the Manager of Infrastructure and Cloud Engineering, you will utilize your strategic,technical, and operational experience as well as your broad understanding of:
  • Enterprise systems (compute, storage, virtual computing, and database) services management
  • Public cloud environments, such as AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • Automation tools such as Chef, Github
  • LEAN IT and Agile methodologies

Responsibilities will include:

  • Manage a staff of IT professionals responsible for all aspects of enterprise systems planning, design and implementation
  • Provide thought leadership across many aspects of our enterprise systems infrastructure in current and emerging technologies
  • Manage and coordinate activities of technical resources responsible for the design of enterprise systems infrastructure products and services as well as oversight of the vendors and service providers
  • Design and implementation of agile and innovative solutions that take advantage of technology advances that allow cost reduction, standardization and commoditization
  • Provide highly reliable services that enable operations to manage environments simply and effectively
  • Drive the adoption of standard toolsets to reduce complexity and support operational goals for increasing automation across the enterprise
  • Develop and execute on long range technology strategy roadmaps
  • Continuously assess current technology footprint and market offerings, drive technology decisions, lead PoCs of new solutions/capabilities
  • Planning, implementing, supporting, and maintaining hardware, software and connectivity components by analyzing the functionality of infrastructure framework and designing and planning major upgrades and changes to ensure reliability and availability
  • Responsible for defining, prioritizing, and supporting key initiatives and operational items
  • Drive and encourage high levels of automation throughout the organization
  • Works closely with our external partners and industry leaders to ensure we have a keen understanding of where industry trends and technologies are going and factor those into our strategies and roadmaps
  • Provide regular communication to peers, IT leadership and business leadership on areas for improvement, progress, milestones, and areas of success
  • Ensure documentation and processes are well defined
  • Relationship management of internal customers and external vendors

Requirements:

  • Experience with managing an enterprise systems environment
  • Experience in direct supervision and leadership of IT professionals in a 7x24x365 mission critical environment
  • Exceptional judgment, strategic thinking, and creative problem solving skills
  • Strong analytical mindset and approach to solving complex technical problems
  • Provide leadership and direction for the overall management of multiple technology domains and project initiatives
  • Knowledge and experience managing teams that provide automation tooling support for infrastructure
  • Take ownership and provide coordination of financial budget planning (CapEx and OpEx spend)

Required Education & Experience:

15+ years of relevant experience in a broad range of computer-oriented disciplines: cloud platforms, server and database administration, programming, technical analysis, troubleshooting, and documentation + supervision.

Education: Bachelors degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience. Master's degree preferred.
Training: Vendor authorized/provided technical training, computer-based course work, or professional on the job training in cloud platform, server and database administration, and supervision. 

This is a full-time, Grade 84, DOE, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
