Position Summary:

Facilities Services is seeking applicants for an MSW4 Maintenance Technician. Typical work schedule will be M-F 8:00am – 4:30pm. Successful applicant will demonstrate at least one year in a field related to this position (construction or maintenance), and be a high school graduate or equivalent.

Duties:

100This is a union represented position. Perform preventative maintenance to support the successful operations of the general services provided by Facilities Services Department of Maintenance. Under the supervision of the Plumbing Shop Supervisor: •Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs of the heating, water, sanitary drainage systems, and alarm systems. •Assist with fire sprinkler system inspections, •Inspect, adjust, or repair leaky faucets and other fixtures and open clogged drains, •Assist journeyman in the installation and repair of plumbing fixtures, •Use hand and power tools common to the trade, •Perform other duties as assigned, •Observe safety rules and regulations, and •Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor to schedule repairs. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

-Ability to interact and communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and customers
-Must be able to lift seventy pounds.
-Ability to work safely and to ensure the safety of others
-Ability to prioritize and consistently complete assigned work in a reasonable amount of time
-Effective problem solving skills and attention to detail
-Collect equipment data by a variety of methods,
-Anticipate equipment need and take effective action;
-Work cooperatively with others;
-Work independently;
-Follow written and oral instructions;
-Learn plumbing and preventative maintenance techniques;
-Must be willing and able to work in areas that may contain hazardous materials and substances;
-Must have and always maintain a current valid Drivers License to hold this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

The successful applicant will demonstrate at least one year in a field related to this position (construction or maintenance).

TYPICAL EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

High School graduate or equivalent.

Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.

Salary Information: MSW4 /Step 1 $19.82/hr.  (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule - http://www.alaska.edu/labor/local-6070/ .   This is a full-time, benefited position with a UA employee benefits package. . Union represented.
