Are you looking for a Student Assistant position with working hours available outside the standard workweek? The Guest Housing and Hess Rec Staff position is a student member of the Department of Residence Life. Guest Housing and Hess Rec Staff have the ability to choose their own days and hours within due dates provided by supervision. Qualified applicants will provide guest housing to UAF affiliates from around the world and our Guest Housing and Hess Rec Staff assist with these operations by providing clean and prepped facilities, within the Hess Rec and Guest Housing facilities. This individual is an Authorized Adult at UAF.
This position supports the mission of the Department of Residence Life by creating a positive, safe environment for guests choosing to stay with us or use our facilities. A qualified candidate should have the following abilities:
-Ability to work a minimum of 4 hours per week.
-Ability to communicate effectively with the University community; in English (both verbally and written) with all types of people.
-Ability to diplomatically deal with people in a variety of situations.
-Ability to exercise sound judgment.
-Ability to identify appropriate resources.
-Ability to provide positive customer service and assistance.
-Ability to work independently.
-Ability to learn how to manage and use audiovisual equipment.
-Ability to stand on your feet to perform the duties of the job.
-Ability to work with basic cleaning supplies.
-Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills necessary to perform duties.
-Ability to demonstrate reliability with attendance and punctuality.
-Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
TYPICAL EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
Demonstrated education and experience sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the position and to have acquired the necessary skills and abilities.
Additional position details:
This position is a Student Assistant B; starting rate of pay is $12.00 hourly.
Increases are based on performance and longevity.
To apply for this position, the applicant may not be on academic probation nor any form of University or residential disciplinary probation. Applicant must be a UAF student.
UA Board of Regents’ Policy P09.05.020 states that in order to be eligible for student employment, graduate and undergraduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment or have been enrolled in the preceding semester for six or more credit hours, and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters.
Foreign nationals in a student position must be enrolled full time unless they have permission from the Designated School Official or Responsible Officer for that campus.
Undergraduate students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA at the time of application and for the duration of employment. Graduate students must have and maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA at the time of application and for the duration of employment.
