Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus is seeking qualified applicants to teach English courses (Wrtg111 and Wrtg 211) in the upcoming 2020 Spring semester - January 13, 2020 first day of instruction. If you possess a desire to help students succeed in reaching their goals, we encourage you to apply. Applicants must be available to work in Sitka and/or within Alaska (depending on course) during the semester employed.

Duties:

The Sitka Campus invites applications from qualified individuals interested in helping students attain their educational goals. Instruction method will be either face-to-face or web-based, or a combination of both, as follows: 

  • Writing 111 - Writing Across Contexts, 3 credit course: face-to-face instruction
  • Writing 211 - Writing and the Humanities, 3 credit course: face-to-face instruction
  • Writing 211 - Writing and the Humanities, 3 credit course: web-based instruction

Adjunct positions are on a semester-by-semester contract basis. Adjuncts are paid a minimum of $1,186.93 per credit taught.

Applicants MUST be available to physically work within Alaska DURING the semester employed.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of accepted instruction methods.
  • Demonstrated skills in teaching at the lower-division course level preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Applicants will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students taking English classes.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Evidence of relevant experience to effectively teach in content area.
  • College level teaching experience preferred.

EDUCATION OR TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of Master's degree in English is required; Ph.D. preferred.
