Position Summary:

Student Assistant position is currently open. Duties include clerical work such as filing paperwork and logging correspondence for Alaska Quarterly Review Publication.

Duties:

100Works under general or intermittent supervision. Duties are varied and require some independent judgment. Decision-making may be required in the minor revision of standard judgment. Examples of typical work include: coordinating activities for a function or project; advance office/administrative duties; maintaining computer equipment; basic computer programming; assisting a skilled crafts or tradesperson.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

May require mechanical or technical ability/knowledge.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Typically requires previous training and experience (e.g., one year). Some college or comparable experience may be necessary.

NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). While in a student position, a student cannot hold any other type of simultaneous employment with the university.

Probationary Period:

Pursuant to University Regulation 04.07.020, new employees of the University are employed in an at-will probationary status for the first six months of employment. During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason. Promoted employees also serve a probationary period with limited rights of retreat.

Training Policy:
