Chief Broadcast Engineer Fairbanks
The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) seeks an experienced Chief Broadcast Engineer to work at Alaska's award-winning public radio and television stations KUAC TV/FM. UAF seeks candidates excited about living in Alaska and working at a premier Land, Sea and Space Grant Institution. KUAC-FM is a full-service NPR station with eight associated translators and statewide distribution via satellite. KUAC-DT operates in the Fairbanks area and three translator communities. KUAC technical facilities also include the operations center for Alaska Rural Communication System (ARCS) uplinks including four statewide television services as well as public radio satellite uplinks. KUAC operates an occasional-use uplink as well. This position reports to the General Manager and is responsible for ensuring that all equipment and facilities are in working order to provide the highest quality broadcast signal possible, 24/7/365.
Research Computing Systems Manager Fairbanks
The Research Computing Systems (RCS) at the Geophysical Institute is seeking a dynamic person to join our team to set the course and manage research computing at UAF. RCS provides advanced computing, storage, network, and research Information Technology (IT) support to the University of Alaska research communities, collaborators, and supporters. The RCS Manager, will consult with researchers and administration, be responsible for system and service delivery, act as the primary budget administrator for the department, manage staff, set priorities, and facilitate a positive and productive work environment. This position includes the opportunity to continue the ongoing development of RCS’s mission and will work with administration to understand, develop, and implement IT capabilities needed by the research community. The successful candidate will need strong skills and experience in customer satisfaction in order to work and partner successfully with researchers to develop and regularly update RCS services to meet workstation, network, computational, and data need storage needs. Senior HAARP Electrical Engineer Copper Center
The High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) is currently accepting applications for a Senior Electrical Engineer. HAARP is the world's most capable high-power, high-frequency transmitter for the study of the ionosphere. The operation of the research facility was transferred from the United States Air Force to the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2015, allowing the Geophysical Institute to continue to operate the facility as an open international observatory for space physics and radio science. This successful Senior Electrical Engineer candidate will have the opportunity to lead remote electrical engineering staff in support of world-class ionospheric research. Seismo-acoustic Research and Operations Scientist Fairbanks
The Wilson Alaska Technical Center (WATC) (https://watc.alaska.edu/) is looking for a dynamic person to join our team to perform seismic and acoustic research and operations. WATC has a unique mix of geophysical station operations and research, and is the nexus of the recently formed and growing Geophysical Detection of Nuclear Proliferation (GDNP) University Affiliated Research Center (UARC). The GDNP UARC was established for research, development, testing, evaluation, and use of scientific and technological capabilities to better sense, locate, characterize, and assess the threat potential of nuclear activities worldwide. WATC was created to recognize the accomplishments and growing stature of nuclear treaty monitoring support programs at the Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. WATC is an externally funded organization and critical component of the GDNP UARC. This position will perform research to help optimize station performance, including an emphasis on data quality monitoring of both seismic and infrasound stations. This position will assist with station operations and will occasionally travel to field sites. The successful applicant will primarily execute research and development to help optimize station performance and data quality, as well as assist with basic research on seismic and acoustic data.
