Position Summary:
The Alaska Conservation Sciences (ACCS), which is a center for research, education and scholarship at UAA is committed to providing the public, industry and agency partners with information to facilitate effective biological conservation and management of the state's natural resources. Our faculty and staff conduction basic and applied research, serve a wide range of data to the public, offer professional services and provides a range of educational opportunities and outreach.
The Alaska Center for Conservation Science at the University of Alaska Anchorage is recruiting an Aquatic Ecologist, Research Professional 3 position. Our mission is to foster research, education, and collaboration in biological conservation and natural resource management in Alaska and the Arctic. This position will lead an aquatic ecological research program in collaboration with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation across the state, and participate in other field research projects.
Tasks may include, but are not limited to, addressing pre-season fieldwork logistics, managing field crews, conducting fieldwork in remote areas of Alaska, managing data, analyzing and interpreting data, writing reports and scientific manuscripts, and collaborating on proposals. Applicants must have a MS or PhD degree and two years of experience. We are seeking candidates with experience planning and conducting aquatic ecological fieldwork in remote areas and with overseeing others in the field. Knowledge of boreal and arctic systems is preferred. Demonstrated experience managing, analyzing, interpreting, and displaying biological data is required and knowledge of ArcGIS, R, Access, Microsoft Office is preferred. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. | Required Experience & Education: |
A master's degree in biological science or related field and two years of experience at the postgraduate level in biological science or related field.
Must have applicable experience managing field logistics, collaborating on writing reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts, supervising staff, conducting statistical analyses, and collecting field data.

| Salary Information: |
This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. We offer a robust and comprehensive benefit package to our employees as part of our total compensation strategy. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
