Position Summary:

UAF Community and Technical College (CTC) is seeking a student success driven Comprehensive Advisor to provide advising services and student support. The successful candidate must be able to effectively network, build relationships and collaborate with a wide range of students, programs and departments. The Comprehensive Advisor should be highly self-motivated and dedicated to student success and have a demonstrated commitment to educational opportunities. Duties:

1-80Comprehensive Advising: Advise undergraduate students at CTC. Develop course schedules and academic plans through a thorough evaluation of academic history, placement data, and student interviews for interests, motivation and financial needs. Synthesize student's personal circumstances and individual needs to promote academic success. Assign program services, such as tutoring or laptop loan, to meet academic needs. Assist advisees with deciding on a major or changing majors, course scheduling, identifying sources for and obtaining financial aid, planning for graduation, employment, social supports and relevant referrals. Explain university policies and regulations. Monitor advisees' academic progress, maintain contact and keep written and/or electronic records of the counseling and advising sessions. Identify, contact and establish plan of action for struggling or failing students in consultation with the CTC Director of Student Success, and the Dean as needed. Advocate for students on academic issues, including but not limited to authorizations for appeals for financial aid, academic probation and academic disqualification, residence life, and the bursar's office. Refer students to appropriate legal and social resources for complex problems. Identify the need for improved or additional services and research and help develop retention strategies as needed. Assist students in areas of career exploration, including but not limited to resume’ and cover letter writing, and job searches. Serve as a liaison between students and UAF departments as well as non-University entities. Adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).Essential
20Outreach/Recruitment/Presentations: Serve on campus committees. Collaborate with other campus departments for recruitment/retention presentations and activities. Travel to designated high school for registration, financial aid, and placement testing for students who are admitted to UAF. Present advisor training to new student services personnel within CTC and provide job shadow opportunities. Present to faculty and staff from other colleges as invited. Present discussions on strategies for developing student success models for first-generation and/or underrepresented populations in higher education. Participate in and promote student engagement in leadership opportunities. Promote community and industrial partner development for employment opportunities. Host organizations to recruit students for summer and permanent employment.Essential

The successful candidate will implement an academic retention program with the goal of helping at-risk students succeed in college. The Comprehensive Advisor will provide opportunities for academic development, assists students with college requirements, and serve to motivate students towards the successful completion of their educational goals. The successful candidate will connect students to mentoring, job shadows, tutoring, math and study skills instruction, advising and mentoring, cultural and social engagement, financial assistance and technology loans.

• Strong computer-based skills associated with Microsoft Office.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
Preferred Experience & Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of relevant experience.
  • Experience providing academic advising and/or student support services.
  • Experience working with Banner Student and Financial Aid modules and/or other computerized advising and student services tools (i.e., DeGreeWorks, UAOnline, Nanook Navigator and AirTable).
  • Experience with outreach and/or recruitment events.
  • Experience with student retention and/or enrollment management.
Required Experience & Education:

Three years relevant experience required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 11 -month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
