Position Summary:
UAF Community and Technical College Department of Developmental Education has an exciting employment opportunity on the Troth Yeddha' campus. We are seeking a student worker to provide customer care and tutoring support within our offices at Gruening 508. The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours per week and be part of the Federal Work-Study program. Come join our team dedicated to helping students succeed in their educational endeavors!
Duties:
50A community service component will be a substantial part of this position. This position will provide tutoring in math, writing, or reading, depending on the successful applicants strengths. These services will be provided within the Development Education office suite or in the Troth Yeddha math lab in the same building. Tutoring will be available to the public on a walk-in basis during designated hours.Essential
50This position will work with faculty, staff, students, and visitors to the Development Education Department located on the Troth Yeddha' campus. Work will be performed under general or intermittent supervision. Duties are varied and may require some independent judgment and decision making.
Be responsible for the operations of the front desk, to include answering phones, assisting students presenting with questions, guiding students to resources online as well as on campus. Updating and maintaining the department website (prior knowledge is not required), updating and maintaining bulletin boards, posting flyers, helping with faculty needs (photocopies, etc.)
Assist with keeping a list of needed office supplies and submitting requests for items needed, as well as maintaining the organization and tidiness of the Developmental Education public areas.Essential
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: |
- Works under general direction. Exercises independent judgment and decision-making in developing new procedures or techniques. May coordinate the use of equipment, building space, or programs.
- Ability to work independently, effectively and professionally with co-workers, faculty, staff, students and visitors.
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures, proficient use of computers (including word processing), and good organizational skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to serve diverse populations.
- Ability to recognize and work with varying learning styles.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA guidelines.
- Tutoring duties require considerable knowledge and skills within the subject area. |
Typical Experience: |
Prior training and/or experience with tutoring in math, writing and/or reading is preferred.

Required Education or Training: |
HS Diploma and previously completed general education requirement (GER) in Math or Writing and Communications.

Student Work Study Minimum Qualifications: |
- UA student enrolled in 6 or more credits and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Applicants must have a current FAFSA and be eligible for the Federal Work-Study Program.

This is a part-time position up to 20 hours per week while school is in session, additional hours may be available during summer/winter breaks. Compensation is commensurate with experience and the type of work assigned. The hourly rate is $16.00 per hour for this Student Assistant 2 work study.
