Position Summary:
The College of Business and Public Policy Communication Manager provides high-level communications and administrative support to the Dean, faculty, and staff. This involves drafting and reviewing documents, and working with various constituents on campus and in the community.
The Communication Manager will actively contribute to the development and implementation of comprehensive, strategic marketing and communication plans designed to effectively publicize programs, faculty (teach, research and service), staff, and student success, using a variety of communication mediums. This position is primarily responsible for copywriting, executing, and measuring the effectiveness of marketing communications that present information to internal and external audiences, supporting the Dean’s advancement responsibilities, and coordinating College’s events and programs.
Duties:
15Public Relations/Media Relations
Seek opportunities in the community to raise awareness about and increase visibility for the College of Business and Public Policy and its mission and purpose. Oversee planning, development and placement of press releases and news stories.
• Assist the Dean, the College of Business and Public Policy Leadership Team, in speech writing and presentation development
• Serve as the first point of contact for media inquiries
• Work closely with faculty and staff in developing messages to respond to media inquiries
• Provide media training and coaching for faculty and staff as needed
• Develops and oversees creative/design concepts from beginning to end to include visuals, campaign concepts, writing radio/TV scripts, and brochures and publications.

20Overall Management
Lead the development, management, and execution of strategic marketing communications plans to build and maintain visibility/create awareness of the College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP) to a variety of internal and external audiences. The Dean's office communication supports its academic programs, faculty research, and public service roles. Develop and implement all external and internal newsgathering information dissemination processes, staying abreast of issues related to CBPP. Coordinate activities between CBPP and UAA Advancement. Supervise communications personnel in the unit.Essential
25Marketing/External Communications
• Develop and implement the College of Business and Public Policy’s strategic communications plan.
• Develop a wide variety of written content for use in fundraising and strategic engagement initiatives
• Manage the development of print and electronic materials and the implementation of all activities to support the communication needs of the College of Business and Public Policy
• Manage the College of Business and Public Policy’s digital media and social networking, including its website, e-newsletter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram
• Plan, develop, and implement content themes/calendars and composing authentic, creative, relevant, and timely social media posts to raise engagement on the College’s website, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
• Track and analyze metrics to measure the impact of content marketing effortsEssential
40Communication Development
Write and distribute accurate, well-written, simple, and appealing content aimed at increasing awareness and adoption of the College’s offerings among students, faculty, staff and the public. Ensure uniformity in style, graphic standards and guidelines.
• Identify, prioritize, and repurpose content across all channels
• Remain current on new trends in digital marketing and social media
• Support and manage the content marketing strategy for the College of Business and Public Policy
• Oversees brochures, photography database, flyers, newsletters, websites, and all marketing activities/materials for all of the units within College of Business and Public Policy. Ensure uniform use of the mission statement and messaging platform by all faculty and staff.
• Develop reference documentation for use in development and engagement communications, including: messaging frameworks, key messaging, talking points, creative briefs, informational brochures and 1-sheets, guidelines and recommendations, etc.

Typical Experience: |
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field required, and five years of progressively responsible communications experience related to the program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. • Master’s degree preferred. Accredited in public relations (APR) by the Public Relations Society of America is a plus.

Salary Information: |
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
