Position Summary:

Exceptional university seeking exceptional admissions counselor. Help students start their next adventure at UAF.

Duties:

1-30Counsel prospective applicants on the admissions process and opportunities at the University. One-on-one admissions counseling to diverse populations is an important responsibility of this position. Admissions counseling occurs primarily by in-person appointments, phone calls and emails. Plan recruitment initiatives within the parameters of defined budget. Report budget updates to the Associate Director of Admissions for Recruitment.Essential
2-30Represent the University both on- and off-campus to a prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. Plan and implement recruitment activities for assigned high schools and territories, including travel to distant sites in the state of Alaska and nationally. Serve as a liaison between prospective students and academic departments, colleges and schools, the Office of International Programs and Initiatives, transfer credit evaluators, and others.Essential
3-20Coordinate and contribute to the success of various student visit programs designed to recruit targeted prospective applicants to the University. These programs require significant collaboration with other departments and offices across campus. Oversee special project areas as assigned. Track and assess programmatic needs, make proposals for annual budget based on target goals and expectations.Essential
4-20In close consultation with the Associate Director of Admissions for Recruitment, manage ongoing strategic communications with prospective students and high school and independent counselors, through the use of social media, email, and virtual presentations, as well as mail, telephone, and on-campus events.Essential
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Strong organizational and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to talk knowledgeably about UAF and answer questions involving individual programs, financial aid, student services, residence life, advising, etc.
  • Demonstrated leadership, decision making, writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to coordinate/schedule large and small events.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and lead a project to completion.
  • Must be able to think creatively, maintain confidentiality, and work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills are necessary, including public speaking skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations.
  • Ability to travel is required.
  • Ability to represent the admissions profession positively through a strong, student-centered ethic.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database software tools.
Typical Experience:
Public, interpersonal and small group communication experience. Experience working with people in a student centered or customer service oriented setting. Experience within higher education or in a business setting. Experience coordinating programs.
Required Education or Training:

Bachelor's degree required and two years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid driver's license.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
