Position Summary:

The Department of Writing at the University of Alaska, Anchorage offers courses leading to and including Tier 1 Writing Literacy General Education Requirements. This includes all 0- , 100- level, and 200-level Writing courses. Adjunct positions are on a semester-by-semester basis. Successful acceptance into the adjunct pool does not guarantee an offer of an appointment. This is an adjunct labor pool and applicants are hired based on departmental need.

Duties:

100The incumbent will be responsible for teaching one or more undergraduate and/or preparatory courses in Writing in a manner consistent with the specific course content guide. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Knowledge of accepted instruction methods. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Public speaking skills. Student support skills.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

2 Years relevant experience.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Master's degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, Creative Writing, or other discipline related to the teaching of writing

Adjunct instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester appointment. Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from which instructors will be hired as needed. Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis according to the needs of that semester's schedule.  Salary is based on the adjunct pay scale as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and is dependent on the number of semesters taught within the University of Alaska system. Minimum pay is $1,198.80 per credit.
