Position Summary:

This position coordinates and leads the UAF Student Parking Attendants. The focus of this position is for training/coaching on policies and procedures, proper use of equipment, maintenance of equipment, uniforms, managing inventory as well as monitoring positive customer service skills in a very difficult regulatory office as perceived by the UAF community as well as the the general public.

Duties:

1Daily oversight of UAF parking services. Supervision of information into student services and parking program databases. Prepare mailings or prepare for pick-up. Provide follow-up assessment as it relates to collection of parking fees and fines. Evaluate parking appeals and communicate outcomes to customers. Evaluate and update parking policy and procedures as necessary to establish a fair and equitable process for all of UAF’s faculty, staff, students and visitors. Serve on student parking attendant hiring committees. Oversee required training, scheduling, and assignment of duties, counseling and motivation of UAF Student Parking Attendants. Ensures the smooth operation of parking enforcement of UAF parking regulations on campus and UAF off-campus locations. Advise Operations Manager or Bursar of circumstances surrounding issues as well as any confrontational incidents dealing with parking attendants. Provide formal testimony and keep records of Parking Appeals Committee decisions if requested. Determine appropriate signage across campus. Organize and assign SPA students, facilities or police department to post as necessary. 25Oversees the SPA’s enforcement of UAF Parking regulations on campus and off-campus locations. Responsible for responding to complaints/issues escalated above the SPA’s level. Dispatch appropriate staff to respond to calls for assistance such as vehicle jump starts, vehicle unlocks, assisting stuck or stranded motorists, report suspicious activities, etc. Maintains records of service calls and incidents.Essential
3Serve as primary information and inquiry point for students, staff, faculty and visitors with all matters associated with parking on UAF grounds. Assist customers by providing accurate information regarding parking issues in an efficient, professional manner using diplomacy and tact. Present a positive attitude about UAF at all times while working under stressful and sometimes hostile conditions. May be asked to speak with groups regarding parking rules and regulations during orientations. Work with UAF departments, contractors and other visitors to campus to arrange special parking permits and guidelines, arranging with subordinate staff and other university departments to ensure proper enforcement.Essential
4Upload from parking database into handheld computers for verification of UAF parking permits, license plates, outstanding citations and special permits. Research vehicle registration information on Department of Motor Vehicles database. Download information from handheld computers to parking database. Troubleshoot handheld and kiosk malfunctions. Work with technical support equipment vendors to resolve problems. Perform Digital parking meter maintenance, troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning meters. Monitor complaints, appeals and logs of jammed and broken meters. Computer skills sufficient to troubleshoot necessary equipment. Coordinate vehicle maintenance, i.e. oil changes, tire changes, repairs, etc. Manage parking decal distribution including daily downloads of parking database program. Add and remove holds on accounts. Assess parking charges on accounts. Entering appropriate decal events. Inventory inoperative outlets, lighting, inappropriate barriers, missing or misleading signage, safety and service issues, reserved parking spots and lot maintenance needed.Essential
5Responsible for cash management of monies collected from parking meters and kiosks on a regular basis. Prepare bank deposits and close cash sessions as appropriate. Maintain inventory and supplies for Student Parking Attendants operation including high security items, uniforms, equipment, handheld parking citation device and kiosk supplies.  TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years of progressively responsible office, administrative and supervisory experience.
  • One year Computer Hardware/Software Skills.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

  • Some college coursework and one year related experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Alaska State Drivers License with Clean Driving Record.

  • Ability to Pass Criminal Background Check.

  • UA Safe Driver Standard.
