Position Summary:

The UAF Campus Mail Center would like to fill a part time position that works in the Mail Center. This area services all University of Alaska Fairbanks students, departments, staff, and faculty with all incoming and outgoing USPS mail. If you have solid positive customer service skills and can work under strong deadlines, please consider applying today. The postal background is preferred but not required. A current valid driver’s license is a must, along with at least 3 years of driving experience to help transport mail to UAF locations around campus and the greater Fairbanks community. Duties:

15Maintain address forwarding system. Distribute packages, certified and registered mail. Monitor and maintain post office boxes. Maintain records, department PO box numbers, account numbers, prepare daily printout using computerized Mail Management System, to assure charges are posted to correct accounts.Essential
20Prepare outgoing mail, advise departments on most cost-effective way to send their mail. Ship letters and parcels using various carriers such as USPS, FedEx, UPS, and DHL. Determine and use correct shipping rate. Apply postage to mail and parcels using computer based automated weighing and imprinting equipment and postage scales. Inspect and properly record accountable mail to assure compliance with carrier regulations.Essential
30Performs daily mail routes to deliver/pickup mail from UAF departments on and off campus. Builds and maintains relationships with customers, vendors, and general public. Models exceptional customer service and maintains Campus Mail Center standards. Listens to and addresses customer (students, staff, and faculty) concerns regarding service, processes, or products. Any unusual issues are forwarded to Manager for resolution. When Manager and Lead Mail Clerk are not in the Campus Mail Center office, this position is responsible for ensuring these duties are carried out.Essential
35Receive, count, sort, distribute, deliver, expedite, and pickup letter mail, parcels, and intra-campus mail. Intra-campus mail may include payroll checks, cash, keys, and sensitive controlled documents. Accountable mail includes Express, Registered, and Certified. Preparation of First Class Presort and Business Reply mail. Provide information and assistance to customers as needed. Assists with opening the Campus Mail Center; closing and securing Campus Mail Center at the end of the work day. Provide training and direction to student employees at the request of the Manager. Other duties as assigned.Essential

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

USPS work experience preferred but not required. Needed skills can be acquired during probationary period.
Alaska driver’s license for at least three years (must be able to qualify as UAF driver – driving on UA business is required).

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

High school or equivalent. Valid driver’s license and must comply with UA Safe Driver Criteria to be eligible.
The successful applicant must be able to qualify to be a passport acceptance agent.

Ability to lift up to 70lbs with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Salary Information: Grade 75 / Step 1 $17.16/hr DOE.  This is a part-time, benefited position with a UA employee benefits package
