Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of English invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Creative Writing/Fiction

Duties:

10%Service: Fulfill various service obligations at the department, college, and university levels and for academic, professional, and community purposes. Specifically, for the English Department, serving on committees focused on areas such as program curriculum, advising, admission reviews, and providing other service–such as advising student-run journals–as required.Essential
20%Research/Creative Work: Writing and publishing short and book-length fiction and other creative work, plus craft-based works in the discipline.Essential
70%Teaching: Teaching duties include teaching lower and upper division/graduate courses pertaining to creative writing, technical writing, professional writing, student-run journals, literature, and composition. Offering graduate workshops and forms courses for the MA, MFA, and MFA/MA programs. Recruiting and advising undergraduate and graduate students. Holding office hours appropriate for the courses being taught. Developing and modifying course curriculum for distance delivery and other teaching modalities as needed.Essential

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of English invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Creative Writing/Fiction. Candidates shall demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring. Teaching duties include developing and offering courses in creative, technical, professional writing, student journals, and/or literature and composition at the undergraduate and graduate levels.   

The successful candidate must hold office hours appropriate for the courses being taught and develop and modify curriculum for in-person, hybrid, and/or distance delivery as needed.

Typical experience for applicants is experience teaching at the university level; experience mentoring and supporting undergraduate and graduate students in their creative, technical and professional writing and publishing; experience writing and publishing stories, essays, and book manuscripts; and experience applying for and managing grant funding for writing, publishing, and research.  

PhD in English and / or Creative Writing plus at least one published book of fiction and teaching experience in creative, technical, and professional writing, literature or composition at time of appointment required. Preference will be given to applicants with broad theoretical knowledge of the discipline and subdiscipline, successful teaching experience, and an established record of publications.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities sought are strong interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to teach a variety of courses pertaining to creative, technical, and professional writing, and/or literature and composition; and the ability to develop and teach courses using diverse formats and platforms including in-person, remote, and hybrid.
