Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus invites applications for a non-tenure track Term Assistant Professor of Health Sciences for AY22-23. We are seeking applicants with a combination of health industry experience and credentials, and ability to provide qualified instruction in health sciences, including the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program. This is a bipartite position that supports the University of Alaska mission of performing both teaching and service. Duties:

100Train students in basic skills needed to assist nurses and to be efficient health care team members. Teach Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) classes. Teach undergraduate health science courses as needed in a manner consistent with the specific course content description. Hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught, be proactive in developing and modifying curriculum as appropriate, and provide University service as assigned.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

1. Ability to develop skills required to teach a variety of survey-level health sciences courses.
2. Experience teaching or training students in health sciences programs or in health care facilities.
3. Certifications or experience in health care, health sciences, behavioral health, and related areas in
addition to nursing qualifications.
4. Experience with electronic communication and/or instructional technologies.
5. Experience working with first generation and non-traditional college students, Alaska Native or
American Indian communities, Filipino and Pacific Islander students, veterans, and other diverse
community groups

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

The successful candidate must satisfy the following requirements:
1. Meet Alaska Board of Nursing requirements for teaching Certified Nurse Aide courses, to include:
a. Be either a registered nurse or practical nurse licensed under AS 08.68 and have either completed a
course in teaching adults or obtained experience in teaching adults or supervising nurse aides; and
b. Have at least two years of nursing experience, including at least one year of experience in the
provision of long-term care facility services.
2. Ability to develop skills required to teach a variety of survey-level health sciences courses

PREFERRED CHARACTERISTICS:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following characteristics:

1. Experience teaching or training students in health sciences programs or in health care facilities.

2. Certifications or experience in health care, health sciences, behavioral health, and related areas in addition to nursing qualifications.

3. Experience with electronic communication and/or instructional technologies.

4. Experience working with first generation and non-traditional college students, Alaska Native or American Indian communities, Filipino and Pacific Islander students, veterans, and other diverse community groups. 

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Have at least two years of nursing experience, including at least one year of experience in the provision
of long-term care facility services.
