Position Summary:

The University of Alaska, School of Nursing (SON) is seeking applications for full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professors of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for the graduate programs. The SON seeks innovative, energetic professionals to contribute to our Psychiatric Mental Health-NP and DNP programs. We are seeking to fill full-time position as the program continues to grow to meet behavioral heath care needs in the State of Alaska Qualified applicants will be doctorally prepared (PhD or DNP) and certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health nurse practitioner. We are seeking to fill this position in Anchorage.

Duties:

100Faculty responsibilities may include didactic teaching (in classrooms and via distance education modalities) and/or clinical instruction (in skills labs, simulation lab, inpatient, outpatient, and community settings). Teaching assignment will be varied upon faculty experience and the needs of the program. The primary teaching assignments will be in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. Additional faculty responsibilities include: planning, implementing, and evaluating curriculum, participation in university and community service activities, and engagement in professional activities. Summary of School of Nursing:
As a partner in shaping health care of Alaska, the University of Alaska Anchorage School of Nursing (SON) educates students for current and future roles in local, state, national, and worldwide arenas, as well as for productive citizenship, personal growth, and professional nursing practice.
 
The SON offers undergraduate students two options: Associate of Applied Science in nursing (AAS) and Bachelor of Science in nursing (BS), programs delivered via distance to sites throughout the state. The RN-BS program offers a bachelors completion program for associate prepared RNs.
 
The SON also offers graduate studies in several specialty tracks: Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner- Family, Nurse Educator, Nurse Leader, and Doctor of Nursing Practice.

This faculty position will fulfill graduate teaching responsibilities, as well as clinical supervision in psychiatric mental health settings. Faculty responsibilities include didactic and clinical instruction in classrooms and via distance education modalities. 
 
Additional faculty responsibilities include: planning, implementing, and evaluating curriculum, participation in university and community service activities, and engagement in professional activities.
 
We are seeking to fill this position in Anchorage.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge base in Nursing Education including curriculum development and teaching methods.
  • Ability to foster healthy relationships with university partners.
  • Understanding of Alaska’s challenges to delivering Nursing education to both urban and rural areas.
  • Skilled at implementing technology for enriching nursing education.
  • Understanding of curriculum development, assessment and evaluation, accreditation and certification standards.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and networking skills.

Required Experience:

  • Clinical nursing experience as a DNP/Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. 
  • Experience working with private and public external constituencies.
Preference will be given to applicants:
  • Graduate level teaching experience in an academic institution, in either face-to-face or online learning modalities.
  • Experience with curriculum development, particularly given the opportunity for ongoing and progressive distance education course development.
  • Experience in additional specialty area.
  • Demonstrate the ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively within a diverse environment.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the classroom and workplace.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively and collaboratively within the scope of the University of Alaska mission with a diverse student population and university staff.

Typical Education or Training:
Doctoral prepared (PhD or DNP from an accredited university required)

Preference will be given to applicants:
Advanced practice nurse certified as a Psych-Mental Health nurse practitioner (PMH-NP) to fulfill teaching responsibilities, especially clinical supervision in psychiatric mental health settings.
 
 
Special Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be eligible for unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and obtain Alaska Nursing license at the time of hire.
  • Eligible for National certification as a Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP).
  • Must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position at the time of hire.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States – NO work visas will be sponsored for this position.
  • This position is located in Alaska.
Salary: 
Based upon level of academic appointment, applicable academic preparation and experience.
 
Assignment Information:
