Position Summary:

GTAs and GRAs assist faculty who are active in teaching and research in the UAA College of Engineering. This will include working directly with senior faculty or staff members. This position is only open to UAA College of Engineering graduate students accepted and enrolled full time in one of the following degree programs: - Civil Engineering (M.S.) - Mechanical Engineering (M.S.) - Project Management (M.S.) - Engineering (Ph.D.)

Duties:

100Graduate Teaching Assistants (TA's) teach, tutor, instruct students and/or assist faculty or instructors of record with teaching activities. Duties include class or lab preparation and setup, in-class activities, grading, interacting with students both in person and electronically, participation in open office hours, course-related field activities, and other duties that help to support faculty members in effective teaching. To be eligible for a TA, students must maintain full-time enrollment (a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester, or 6 credit hours in the final semester of enrollment) and maintain good academic standing. Graduate Research Assistants (RA's) assist with research activities. Duties include computer, lab, or field-based research activities, mentoring of students in research projects, and completion of a research project that results in the production of a thesis or dissertation. To be eligible for an RA, students must maintain full-time enrollment (a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester, or 6 credit hours in the final semester of enrollment) and maintain good academic standing.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Proficiency in computer skills. Ability to communicate effectively and work well with students, faculty and staff.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Student must have previously passed the course they are supporting with a grade of C or better.

Graduate students must be full-time (9 credits or more) to be eligible for an assistantship; audited classes do not count toward full-time classification. Graduate students in their final semester of study are only required to register for 6 credits for graduate assistantships. Must hold a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Bachelors Degree required. Must be a graduate student accepted and enrolled in the College of Engineering M.S. or Ph.D. program at UAA.
