Position Summary:

Apply now to join the GI Education Outreach team! We provide outreach about current research to K-12 learners throughout Alaska. This position will be full-time and will require travel to rural communities. If you enjoy researching, developing, and creating educational materials for learners of all ages we are interested in your application! Duties:

10Provide miscellaneous support for education outreach programs: - Assist project evaluators and education researchers in the collection and management of data used to inform program leadership and funding agencies. - Share in proposal development, research and writing. - Gather data and draft performance reports and other communications related to education outreach programs. - Co-author articles for science and/or education-related journals.Essential
25Assist in coordination and implementation of training, outreach and dissemination: - Provide training on and/or model use of newly developed educational products. - Assist project staff in developing agendas and syllabi for training and outreach programs. - Prepare materials and organize/assemble supplies for use during training, outreach and dissemination. - Disseminate resources and project information through a variety of social media outlets. - Prepare and deliver presentations about GI education programs at professional conferences and community eventsEssential
65Plan, research, develop and create educational materials for learners of all ages: - Work with UAF researchers, K-20 educators, indigenous culture-bearers and linguists to develop educational resources that utilize a wide range of interpretive and educational technologies. - Translate complex science and math content into a format understandable to broad audiences. - Ensure products are aligned with current state and national content and performance standards. - Work with community organizations and local educational agencies to ensure resources developed are suitable for specific venues, such as museums, libraries and schools. - Work with vendors (graphic designers, fabricators, programmers, etc.) to oversee production of educational materials. -Facilitate expert review and pilot testing of newly developed educational products.Essential

Additional Department Information/Additional Position Information: 

This position will be physically located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska.  While there may be a current opportunity for remote work, the successful finalist will be expected to report to duty at the UAF office no later than 60 days from written notice provided by the university.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Ability to follow and train others to use educational best practices.

Knowledge of current state and national education standards

Knowledge and skill in developing interpretive and educational technologies

Advanced communication skills, including professional writing, public speaking, and highly developed interpersonal skills

Fluency with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Team leadership skills, including the ability to coordinate efforts with Creatives (graphic designers, videographers, multimedia producers)

Basic principles of exhibit design

Geophysical science content knowledge

Ability to translate technical information for broad audiences

Ability to create original storyboards for multimedia production

Data entry and analysis skills

Library and Internet research skills

Experience with proposal writing

Experience working with Alaska Native or other Indigenous groups.

Required Education and Experience: 

Bachelor's degree in Education or commensurate experience

Post-secondary coursework in geophysical sciences and mathematics

Salary Information:

This position is full-time, Grade 78, term-funded, non-exempt, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
