Position Summary:

The Esports Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the UAF esports program. The coordinator is responsible for promoting a comprehensive and sustainable Esports program that advances the three pillars of Community, Collaboration, Competition. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Nanook Diversity and Action Center in addressing social justice issues related to games and esports; create live events and digital content around the program; and establishes external revenue generation avenues. The coordinator will also oversee student staff, the marketing, finances and event planning responsibilities associated with the program.

1515% Recruitment & Marketing Work with recruiters in communication and presentation of Esports opportunities Develop recruitment material for fairs and visits High school and junior high outreach through visits and on-campus events Seek out sponsorships and endorsement opportunities Connect with related industries/businesses Organize fundraising efforts for camps Develop a branding strategy Web, software UI, social media, print material, arena design Identify appropriate events/publications/venues to market degrees Identify appropriate high school events to market university degrees and programsEssential
2020% Financial Management Oversees program expenditures and defines annual program budget in consultation with the Director of the Center for Student Engagement. Work with University Development office to build and strengthen corporate relationships and create a fundraising model to support the esports program. Identify and facilitate opportunities for major gift donors/prospects to serve in meaningful volunteer roles when appropriate. Monitors expenditures to assure expenses do not exceed budget allocation; exercises initiative and judgment in the use of program resources. Provides supervision and task assignment for staff and team members. Conducts annual performance evaluations. Responsible for the recruitments, hiring, training, and supervision of all student staff members.Essential
2525% Facilities and Event Management Implements policies and procedures in accordance with fire safety and Environmental Health and Safety codes and regulations. Maintenance and upkeep of the UAF Esports Arena and other department facilities as needed. Ensure that all computer hardware and software are updated and work closely with campus OIT to guard against any security vulnerabilities. Plan and develop events in and around the Esports center: regular gaming events, open gaming, panels, and collaborate with CSE’s other programming offices on annual events. Partner with local high schools to coordinate specials events. Create summer camps that will be revenue generating and serve as a recruitment tool for UAF. Work with CSE’s marketing and graphics manager to develop a marketing plan/strategy to ensure that all events are well attended by the campus community.Essential
4040 % Program Management, Planning and Implementation Responsible for the development, planning, implementation, evaluation and expansion of programs and services reflective of an increasingly diverse student population. Recruit, hire and train student employees to assist with program implementation. Responsible for the direction and management of the Esports program designed to meet the needs of our student gamers population. Responsible for the development and comprehensive assessment of learning outcomes for Esports. Provides overall direction for students participating in Esports programs development focused on key learning outcomes and CSE’s mission and values. Build and coordinate strategic partnerships through academic areas of computer sciences, engineering, education, school of management. Work closely with faculty and campus partners to identify opportunities for research in the areas of video gaming and Esports. Provides particular focus to addressing the unique needs of UAF’s gaming student organizations on campus. Serve as a student organization Advisor for relevant clubs. Work with Office of Admissions in developing an outreach and recruitment plan to include Esports in materials and in high school recruitment events. Develop objectives and goals as they relate to the area of Esports on campus. Maintain effective working relationships with departments within Student Affairs and be a member of the CSE programming staff.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of student development theories
  • Knowledge and understanding of Esports (PC, Console, gaming trends, streaming services)
  • Experience in complex event planning
  • Knowledge of basic marketing principles
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware/software
  • Skill is required to establish professional work relationships with all units and campus personnel, clients, members of the public and off campus agencies in a respectful manner consistent with the goals of campus and community organizations.
  • The position requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to develop and monitor a budget; to plan and administer educational programming; to establish and sustain communication with faculty and staff regarding the needs of students; to appropriately interpret and act on goals in response to the inquiries and needs of related University agencies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • One-two years experience administrative and student activities programming experience in an institution that has a diverse student population. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of video game and or Esports industry. 
  • Excellent/communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to communicate ideas and concepts effectively. 
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and multicultural programs and student development theory. 
  • One-two years experience in budget management
  • Experience with program and learning development assessment
  • Ability to develop plans to meet goals across all areas of the program. Effective marketing skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work independently, set priorities, meet deadlines and work on various projects and programs concurrently. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and officials of external agencies and the general public. 
  • Leadership skills to develop and pursue the vision for the program.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Bachelors degree required. Masters degree in Student Affairs or related field preferred.

This is a full-time, Grade 79, minimum $26.08/hr, DOE, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits packageThis position is open until filled with the initial application review taking place on January 3, 2022.
