Facilities Services Utilities is looking to hire for two MSW4 Utilities Laborer positions. These are union-represented positions under the direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor. The employee will perform duties at the Atkinson Heat & Power Plant in support of Plant Operations.
100% 1. May routinely perform a variety of general laboring, housekeeping, maintenance, repair, and construction tasks in a combination of several trades requiring less than journeyman skills in any one of the trades practiced. Knowledge of basic hand and power tools; forklift, lift gates and hydraulic jacks.
2. Remove hazards from buildings and grounds including snow, ice, debris, animal wastes, construction materials, and other items as required.
3. Assists tradesmen when directed.
5. Perform a variety of routine tasks, as assigned, in the operation, care and maintenance of the University buildings and grounds.
6. This position will require strenuous work conditions outdoors, during the winter months. May require travel to remote sites for extended periods of time.
7. Must be willing to work extra hours as requested to perform this job successfully.
8. Must be willing and able to lift and/or move up to 70 lbs. Essential
Demonstrated ability to work in a construction environment, proficient in using a range of hand and power tools, physically dexterous to perform repetitive tasks and lift heavy objects, proven ability to understand and execute written instructions, competent at performing preventative maintenance on equipment and power tools, excellent attention to detail, able to work efficiently with and without supervision, well versed in maintenance, cleaning and debris removal tasks, demonstrated ability to work in extreme weather conditions, experience operating forklifts and pallet jacks, knowledge of handling hazardous materials and industrial waste, self-motivated problem solver who works collaboratively with all levels of employees.
2+ years’ construction or moving industry experience preferred, documented employment in such fields or 2 years experience in another general labor position or positions.
REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
High school diploma/GED preferred. Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures. Valid driver's license.

Salary Information: CT1 /Step 1 $22.79/hr. (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule - http://www.alaska.edu/labor/local-6070/ . This is a full-time, benefited position with a UA employee benefits package. Union represented.
