Position Summary:

UAA is accepting applicants for a term, full-time Research Professional to work on the Alaska Water Sewer Challenge Project and directly assist with the development of the undergraduate research program in the Office of Research. Applicants must have experience working with custom engineering devices and systems as well as skills to interface with manufacturers, contractors, and project funding agencies. Further, the applicant needs to have experience seeking external funding, developing new operational procedures, and organizing project execution. This recruitment is open internally to current UA employees or those otherwise eligible to apply to internal postings.

20Develop and implement processes to make undergraduate research opportunities available to UAA students as well as method to review and select awardees of internal funding, monitor student progress, collect final student reports, and methods to report to foundation or appropriate funder.Essential
20Locate, solicit, and propose (or coordinate proposals) for external funding opportunities as they relate undergraduate research across the UA.Essential
50Research Project Engineer: Design and develop specifications for the water reuse system to be constructed for human testing. Delineate and coordinate contractor activities to modify UAA Templewood Dormitory to bifurcate wastewater into two streams, greywater for treatment and wastewater to sewer system. Coordinate system start-up (physical system, student recruitment, participant recruitment, coordinate operation, etc.), initiate and coordinate all system monitoring activities and coordinate with appropriate project management tools.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Expert level knowledge of research methods, analytical procedures, and engineering design. Knowledge of: advanced data collection, management, and storage; report preparation and publication; grant writing procedures; and grant budget management. Ability to manage, typically research staff/students or a research program. Ability to effectively communicate findings to the public, funding agencies, and contractors.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Must be a proficient capable project manager and engineering designer. Successful candidates shall have experience with design of open-source electronics. Further, must have skills necessary to act as the primary point of contact with manufacturers, contractors, and project funding agencies.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

PhD and four years research experience at the postgraduate level in an engineering field relevant to civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Term Position:

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
