The University of Alaska Fairbanks Student Health and Counseling Center is seeking a Family Practice Physician to provide health services to UAF students. The Center provides medical, counseling and health education services to the UAF student body. Physicians provide comprehensive, ambulatory health care and health education for university students as a part of the medical staff. They serve as consultants to university stakeholders regarding the campus' health and safety as related to medical and physical health considerations. This is a full time benefited position during the academic year (nine months from mid-August to mid-May). Options for a benefited summer contract are available. The applicant must have the ability to work independently as well as with a healthcare team.
10 10% Education related to Campus Health
-write articles on health related topics for the campus newspaper
-provide health education programs on campus as needed Essential
10 10% Program Planning
-participate in general staff meeting to remain abreast of program plans and participate in future planning
-participate in medical staff meetings regularly to develop and review program plans and activities. Essential
15 15% Consultation, Training and other General Professional Duties
-assist student/campus groups when they need health information or consultation
-advise faculty and staff on campus regarding student health problems; provide guidance when crises occur
-train faculty and staff on health-related topics when necessary
-participate in campus wide and division wide activities related to our department and campus medical services
-maintain appropriate relationship with Fairbanks medical community Essential
20 20% Supervision
-oversee all SHCC medical services
-supervise work of other medical staff including regular supervision for all health service providers
-lead medical assistants by providing guidance and direction
- provide oversight, guidance, education and encouragement to medical staff
- provide leadership for the medical group in meeting goals of SHCC
-organize and oversee immunization programs on campus
-oversee and coordinate the ordering of prescription medications, in-clinic tests, vaccines, and medical supplies
- fill in for director as needed Essential
40 40% Clinical Services
-diagnose and treat medical conditions of students including complex problems
-provide expertise in a specialized area including acting as an expert resource, providing training to other employees in a specialized area, and creating treatment plans for patients needing specialized care (e.g. psychiatric, women's health, nutrition, internal medicine)
-carry out lab tests or send out lab specimens as needed
-prescribe therapeutic drugs as needed
-provide medical/health education as appropriate
-refer students for specialized medical care
-create a written record of information gathered and services provided in accord with legal and professional standards
-maintain confidentiality in accord with federal and state law and professional ethical standards
-write letters to students, parents and other service providers as needed to provide necessary care Essential
5 5%Administrative Duties
- Approve medical staff time sheets
- Assist in hiring and recruitment activities of Center staff
- Review and approve continuing education activities of medical staff Essential
-Advanced knowledge of general medicine.
-Knowledge of laboratory procedures and tests. -Knowledge of appropriate legal and medical procedures relating to health care. -Advanced health assessment skills. -Accurate diagnostic skills. -Excellent communication skills: active listening, written communication, oral communication -Excellent ability and skills to work within a team: motivating and supportive of others - Proficiency in managing relationships and building networks and ability to find common ground and build rapport, respectful towards patients and coworkers -Ability to hire, train, and supervise employees -Excellent leadership skills
-Six years relevant experience, including experience in a student health center, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
-Board Certified Family Practice MD or DO
-Alaska licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant -DEA number
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and
full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA salary schedule, Grade 84, based on education and experience. This recruitment is open until filled with the initial application review taking place on September 27th, 2021.
