UAF eCampus is seeking a web professional to join its team. The Web Specialist will oversee the user experience, functionality and security of the web assets operated by UAF eCampus, including ecampus.uaf.edu (student-oriented) and iteachu.uaf.edu (faculty-oriented). Working closely with the UAF eCampus Communications Manager and others, this position will be a critical component of the university’s recruitment and enrollment goals, building, improving, and operating a variety of dynamic web experiences. 10 Special Projects and Other Duties as Assigned:

40 Web Design and Maintenance:
Design, maintain, and improve new and existing eCampus web pages. Routinely review websites for broken links, forms, and modules. Troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly. Create mobile-first designs. Develop a functional style guide.
Optimize photos and other visuals for web usage. Maintain a functional media library. Coordinate with graphic designers to create web visuals and to match web assets with other public-facing communication.
Make recommendations and advise staff on needed changes to web pages. Review major website changes with project managers and other web designers. Work with other web professionals around campus to ensure consistency across UAF sites.
Assist with maintenance and updates on our multi-user instance of WordPress, which is hosted on a third-party platform. This requires familiarization with their dashboard tools and the use of Terminus. Essential
50 Web Development:
Under the supervision of the UAF eCampus communications manager, develop goals, deliverables and timelines for websites. Recommend and refine website specifications and requirements based on technical needs. Plan and develop website architectures, navigation schemes and page layouts using standard HTML/CSS best practices. Implement web security protocols and updates to guard against online attacks such as website hacking.
Build user-friendly registration and inquiry forms. Develop solutions for improving the usability, accessibility and multimedia engagements of UAF eCampus websites. Ensure websites are fully accessible to all potential users.
Write well-designed, efficient web programming code using best practices. Track and improve site speeds. Research and utilize plug-ins as needed.
Review and analyze web analytics data and conduct user testing of web design and usability, cross-browser and mobile compatibility. Analyze testing results, identify potential problems and recommend changes to resolve problems and inform web design strategies. REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other related area preferred; experience in web development;
demonstrated attention to detail and instructions; demonstrated proficient verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent desktop computer skills and proficiency with WordPress, Google Apps suite, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Cloud suite. Ability to work effectively under pressure of deadlines and multiple simultaneous projects.
