Position Summary:

The International Arctic Research Center is currently accepting applications for Post Doctoral Fellows. Applicants will be reviewed on an as-needed basis by various departments during the year. IARC was established in 1999 as a cooperative research institute supported by both U.S. and Japanese governments. IARC's mission is to foster Arctic research in an international setting to help the nation and the international community to understand, prepare for, and adapt to the pan-Arctic impacts of climate change.

Duties:

100Duties will vary according to the project. Work may be done in a laboratory or in the field. Work may be part- or full-time. Works under administrative supervision. Solves complex research questions/problems using analytical skills. Creates reports for use in publications. Combines own work with the work of other research professionals and faculty to produce complete projects. May design processes or tools for gathering information. May coordinate the work of other research professionals or research technicians. May develop, with guidance, models for use by other research professionals or faculty members. May use fiscal/statistical knowledge to develop reports.Essential

Required Education and Experience:

Ph.D. degree (already received, or having completed all requirements and awaiting graduation) with emphasis on relevant science field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Sufficient relevant experience to contribute significantly to a specific project.
Experience in the use of computers and other appropriate equipment to conduct the research proposed.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Additional Information:

Incumbents will join faculty and researchers who are active in conducting research in a wide variety of disciplines pursued at IARC (see www.iarc.uaf.edu) including but not limited to: methane gas emissions, all aspects of data research, oil spill response/recovery research, research related to detection of contemporary environmental change, and interactions and feedbacks in atmosphere-ice-ocean research. This will include working on one or more funded projects in these research areas under the guidance of senior faculty members. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year contingent on satisfactory performance and final approval of funds.

Term Positions:

This position is a term-funded position through June 30, 2022, and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.

Probationary Period:

Pursuant to University Regulation 04.07.020, new employees of the University are employed in an at-will probationary status for the first six months of employment. During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason. Promoted employees also serve a probationary period with limited rights of retreat.
