Position Summary:

The Animal Resources Center is seeking experienced grounds crew/maintenance workers to assist with maintenance and operations of the Robert G. White Large Animal Research Station. Applicants will be reviewed on an as-needed basis until June 30, 2022. This position will be physically located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska.


100Duties will vary by position: Perform grounds crew duties on a working 140-acre farm. Includes: mowing lawns and pastures, pulling weeds, raking, cutting/trimming trees, and brush. Maintain public spaces and tour areas and ensure the facility is locked and secure each evening. Maintain drainage ditches and culverts and operate pumps to drain standing water. Perform maintenance and repair of vehicles, scientific equipment, motors, pumps, build and/or maintain fencing, gates, storage sheds, and cages. Assist with various construction projects. Assist in the movement of animals and movement of feeders and water tanks. Perform cleaning and maintenance of feeders and water tanks. Unload hay and feed deliveries. Clean and maintain feed storage sheds. Operate pallet jack.Essential


Knowledge of hand and power tools and their safe operation.

Experience with tractors, mowers, ATVs.

Familiarity with small engines and power equipment.

Ability to exhibit a high degree of professionalism.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to prioritize and use good judgment.

Ability to multitask.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

A high degree of independence and problem-solving ability is required.

Required Education and Experience: 

High school diploma or equivalent. Grounds crew or maintenance experience preferred. Experience working with or around animals is helpful but not required.
