The University of Alaska is seeking four full-time DevOps Engineers to fill highly coveted growth vacancies on OIT’s Digital Platform Teams. This is a joint recruitment.

10Serves as a senior advisor for a major system, database, operation or project/task. As senior advisor, consults with and advises unit/project/task staff of complex problems, innovative approaches and new technology.

Actively maintains currency and effectiveness of technical skills by expanding his/her technical and functional knowledge of through University or vendor provided training and self study.Essential
10Serves as senior staff member within the Technical Services section. Performs primary systems administration and operational viability functions for assigned databases under the responsibility of ITS-SS/TS.
Serves as unit or project/task leader, directing and reviewing activities of task group members.Essential
25Analyzes the technical and functional feasibility of proposed solutions.
Designs, tests, and implements databases and associated database products. Analyzes, documents, installs, develops, and maintains database management software.
Coordinates resources in order to ensure smooth delivery and ongoing maintenance and enhancement. Is responsible for tracking project progress and communicating status to stakeholders and OIT management.
Represents TS and provides database development expertise on cross-departmental teams.
Transfers knowledge to individuals responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the automated process including OIT staff and end users.
Documents and conducts meetings before, during and at the close of a project.Essential

30Performs technical information systems tasks requiring expertise and/or specialized knowledge in both information systems and a non-information systems technical or scientific discipline. Performs detail analysis and interpretation of technical problems requiring specialized knowledge and skills in a scientific discipline; applies subject matter expertise unique to the discipline.
Performs highly technical responsible work in providing computer services support related to: database upgrades, developing/maintaining the database environment (definition/structure, access strategies, data dictionary, schemas, views, and hardware utilization), database infrastructure services management (SQL database queries, exports/imports, resolving database errors, assisting users). Provides backup support for other ITS-SS/TS staff, as required.Essential
* Demonstrable experience and proficiency utilizing software engineering principles and techniques.
* Theoretical and practical functional knowledge and skills in the development of administrative software systems using
client/server and web technologies.
* Demonstrable analytic and development experience within a large and complex computing environment using classic and web technologies.
* Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills as well as being highly organized and self-directed.
* Demonstrable project experience within a large and complex IT environment.
* Demonstrable interest and ability to maintain current technical skills by learning new emerging technologies.
5+ years of relevant experience in a broad range of complex software engineering projects and/or assignments using client/server and web technologies.
REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
A Bachelors degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
Oracle databases and architecture; iterative life cycle development; Use Cases; SQL programming; General programming languages; UNIX and Windows operating systems; Microsoft Excel, Word, Project.
This is a full-time, Grade 81, (minimum $64,210 yearly, DOE), 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
