Position Summary:

UAA’s Enrollment Services provide students, visitors, faculty and staff with one-stop quality customer service by sharing accurate information and knowledge in the areas of admissions, residency, financial aid, registration and graduation. The UAA Student Assistant will report to the Student Experience Designer and work as the primary first tier support to ensure that students have exceptional customer service experiences. This position is expected to have broad knowledge of our programs and processes while engaging in meaningful customer interactions. Furthermore, the position is responsible for checking in and assisting students, troubleshooting student issues, and imaging documents. We are looking for motivated, team-oriented individuals with outstanding customer service and organization skills, and the ability to learn, understand, and relay complex policy and process to prospective and current UAA students. This is a pooled position and applicants will be evaluated on an as-needed basis.

Duties:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides immediate, ongoing, and efficient information and problem resolution to students in a timely manner via telephone, e-mail, or electronic chat.

  • Builds rapport with students in a friendly, professional manner.

  • Develops efficient conflict resolution strategies and communications.

  • Resolves routine customer concerns in a professional and efficient manner.

  • Protects the privacy of student account information through compliance with federal student privacy law (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act - FERPA).

  • Maintains a productive working relationship with all other departments.

  • Meets or exceeds quality and performance standards for the role.

  • Adheres to work schedule, which may vary and include evening and weekend hours. Enrollment Services will always work around students’ class schedules.

  • Assists other team members with special projects as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication in addition to persuasively clear and concise customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse audiences.

  • Ability to handle diverse tasks simultaneously using prioritization.

  • Ability to handle escalated issues calmly and appropriately and to take initiative to resolve problems and offer solutions.

  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency with software applications used in the department.

  • Ability to learn quickly and work in a high energy team environment.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work under time sensitive deadlines.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work successfully with limited supervision.

  • Ability to use active listening skills.

  • Skilled at troubleshooting, with the best interest of the customer in mind.

  • Ability to research answers and to follow processes and procedures expected of the position.

  • Demonstrated understanding of FERPA guidelines and internal policies regarding student and employee privacy.

  • Ability to understand and follow professional standards.

 

Required Experience:

Computer skills and data entry experience.

    Be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours each semester you are employed in the position.

    Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

    Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the senior student service officer within the university.
