This position works in the Eielson Building on campus. The Student Assistant position available right now is communications and events assistant.
Communications and events assistant: This is a great opportunity to get to know the campus and the community. The position assists the institutional events manager with all aspects of events such as commencement, the chancellor’s fall convocation, chancellor’s forums, Golden Days parade and the Tanana Valley State Fair.
Other administrative duties may also be assigned. Must be able to work with limited supervision as needed. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move boxes of print publications. May be asked to walk distances around campus to post fliers or other deliveries. Must be able to perform both of these with or without accommodations. May include occasional evening or weekend hours. Position requires the knowledge and skill to operate computers and equipment noted in the job description, demonstrated skills in the position applied for and the ability to exercise independent judgment. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, database, data entry and customer service. Previous work experience and familiarity with Macintosh computers. Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize. Provide own transportation to various institutional event locations. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move boxes of print publications with or without accommodations. Ability to problem solve. Ability to write, edit and proofread grammatical U.S. English. Be able to work efficiently, independently with minimal supervision, get along well with others and learn quickly through experience and instruction.

Applicant must be enrolled as a UAF student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student.
NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). While in a student position, a student cannot hold any other type of simultaneous employment with the university.
This is a Student Assistant C; minimum starting pay $10.50.
