Position Summary:

The SNAP Ed Nutrition Educator in the Fairbanks District office will teach approved nutrition curricula to eligible audiences including both direct and indirect educational methods. The successful candidate will participate in wellness activities throughout the community, teach food preparation, food safety, nutrition, and food resource management. They will recruit clients from eligible audiences and complete necessary client records as required. Job requires local travel within the District.

Duties:

10Reporting. Maintain detailed and accurate records; compile client information and evaluation, financial and district travel reports, program feedback; meet monthly reporting deadlines.Essential
13Recruitment and Outreach. Recruits clients from community and other assistance organizations, may require partnerships and collaboration to reach the target audience. Represent USDA, UAF, CES, and FNP in a professional manner.Essential
2Training. Participate in monthly audios. Complete trainings as required by UAF, CES, and FNP supervisors.Essential
5Communication. Communicate with partners, stakeholders, CES and FNP staff. Compose social media posts, newsletters, news columns or nutrition and physical activity articles as requested by supervisor.Essential
70Teach, prepare lessons, and local travel. Teach USDA approved nutrition curriculum, food dollar management, food safety and basic cooking programs to eligible audiences. Develop and maintain a command of current curricula, the Dietary guidelines, physical activity recommendations. Use various means to reach target autdiences including direct and indirect education, maintaining educational displays, offering food preparation, and physical activity demonstrations. Participate in wellness committees or other coalitions which support our mission when appropriate and as requested by supervisor. Lessons are taught in homes, in agency/community group settings or school classrooms. Incorporate the individual''s cultural background and values in methods of communication and service provision. Meet with elders and other community members to provide service that is culturally appropriate to the region. Use a strength based approach when providing services and teaching.Essential

JOB OVERVIEW:

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

- Ability to work independently
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Prior experience with culturally diverse, low-income persons and/or assistance agencies.
- Basic understanding of nutrition and physical activity
- Familiarity with assistance programs

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

- Six months experience leading formal or informal educational activities or providing nutrition or community health services to individuals or groups

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver's license and transportation to office and client locations
