Position Summary:

The Bristol Bay Campus (BBC) is seeking applications for a Term Assistant Professor in Tribal Governance.

80Teaching: Develop and teach Tribal Management core courses (finance, management, organizational theory) as well as courses in natural resource management, land use planning, subsistence, renewable energy, food security, GIS, or other natural resource-related fields. The University of Alaska (UAF) Bristol Bay Campus is located in the heart of town, nestled between the City of Dillingham Public Library/Museum and Dillingham High School. This college campus consists of two buildings, the Main Campus building, and the Applied Science Center.  The University of Alaska Fairbanks Bristol Bay Campus (College of Rural and Community Development) is committed to knowledge-based education of rural Alaskans and those that reside in the Bristol Bay and Aleutian regions of Alaska.

This faculty position will be expected to travel to rural villages as needed; travel to rural areas is commonly by small commuter plane and many villages have limited commercial enterprises for lodging, meals, and other services.


Experience with Natural Resource/Subsistence policy and planning.
Demonstrated experience in the course and curriculum development, educational assessment and
instructional technology.
A strong interest in education in rural Alaska with the ability to support and utilize a variety of delivery
Experience with data collection and program evaluation.
Ability to support and utilize a variety of distance delivery teaching methods.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and experience working with diverse populations.


At least 3 years experience teaching or working in a Natural Resource related field with tribes and/or
native organizations.
Experience teaching at the post-secondary level with a background in distance education. Demonstrated
experience working with tribal, state, and federal governments and organizations.
Demonstrated experience teaching in Tribal Management or related discipline.


Master's degree or equivalent in an appropriate field.

Experience with distance delivery including online instructional technology. Experience working/living in rural
areas or with rural populations, particularly rural Alaska. Evidence of successful teaching in Tribal
Management, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline with a commitment to student-
centered learning, student engagement, and teaching excellence.
Experience working with adult learners and nontraditional students.
Experience in developing and maintaining partnerships. Experience in multicultural settings, particularly with Alaska Natives or American Indians.

This is a full-time, term, non tenure-track faculty position, Starting Pay is DOE which includes a geographic differential of 27%, a 9-month position complete with a salary, and competitive  UA employee benefits package.
