Position Summary:

The Department of Art at the University of Alaska Anchorage is inviting applications for a full time term instructor position in Photography. This position is comprised of teaching undergraduate photography classes and 2D Design foundations while having the opportunity to develop new courses and curriculum that incorporates interdisciplinary practices with printmaking. A successful candidate should have the ability to teach traditional and contemporary content as well as emerging processes and methodologies pertaining to photography. A candidate must be able to offer students a comprehensive understanding of photography by teaching a strong work ethic, various methods of research, critical discourse and innovative thinking. An ideal candidate will be committed to mentoring students, collegiality, and interdisciplinary teaching. *This recruitment is open internally to current UA employees or those otherwise eligible to apply to internal postings.


100%This position will conduct instructional activity and service as part of a bipartite workload to include teaching courses at the undergraduate level in photography, 2D design and printmaking. Oversee a photography studio and printmaking studio. Work with adjuncts in photography. Mentor students within the Department of Art. Maintain a strong personal artistic practice. Provide service to the Department of Art, University and the community.Essential

Candidates must have the knowledge, skill, and ability to teach undergraduate courses related to photography and two-dimensional design. Competence in the profession or discipline and the ability to effectively communicate subject matter to students. Evidence of creative and professional accomplishments. Knowledge of traditional and digital photography techniques and cross disciplinary methodologies. Ability to work with students and sensitivity to a diverse student population. Strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as collegiality with colleagues.


Length of time and type of experience required for this position should be appropriate to the rank of Term Instructor. Minimum two years college-level teaching experience and professional experience required. Experience teaching photography (minimum of two years), videography, 2D design (one year minimum), and printmaking.


Masters of Fine Arts is required.
