Position Summary:

KPC is seeking an organized, energetic, and self-motivated Veteran Student Services Coordinator to oversee the Veteran program at KPC, assist with recruitment efforts and college events, and to welcome, onboard and support new and prospective students.

Duties:

1010% OTHER Assist with the coordination and implementation of various campus events, such as new student orientations, recruitment events, the KRC annual commencement ceremony and other public events. May include some evening and weekend hours. Actively participate in assigned committees and/or councils. Engage in professional development activities such as workshops, division, and department training sessions. Maintain proficiency in all assigned university data management and student support systems, such as VAOnce, Salesforce and Banner. Serve as a back-up to related positions and cross train with peer positions to ensure coverage during absences.Essential
1515% RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION Collaborate with the Student Services Director and KPC Recruitment Coordinator in planning and participating in KPC recruitment events/initiatives, with a special focus on Veteran students. May require travel and some work on weekends. Keep up-to-date on KPC program and course offerings, and university policies and procedures regarding enrollment. Collaborate with other departments for the development of Veteran student informational and marketing materials. Devise and maintain effective methods of communicating with Veteran and first-year students at critical milestones. Collaborate with faculty and staff to maintain contact with Veteran students and first-year students in order to increase student engagement. Serve on KPC’s Recruitment and Retention committees. Track enrollment, engagement and academic performance of KPC Veteran students and make recommendations to the committees on how to better recruit and retain Veteran students.Essential
2525% ONBOARDING NEW STUDENTS Assist both Veteran/military and a portion of general newly admitted and first year students with their transition to KPC. Meet with prospective students and their families and provide customized, hospitable outreach and transition support. Assist new students with the entire enrollment process. Build relationships with students to connect them to campus resources and facilitate their development and success. Serve as an advocate and liaison for students to internal offices including Counseling & Advising, faculty, Admissions, Registration, Financial Aid, and student support services. Educate and guide students in initiating academic and logistical actions based on university deadlines, policies and procedures (e.g. course registration, add/drop actions, completion of admission and financial aid materials, addressing account holds, purchasing books, etc.). Comply with all federal FERPA regulations and confidentiality procedures and institutional policies applicable to testing and placement data management. Protect the security of student information and records as required, including paper and electronic media. Follow established University protocols and use assigned tools and systems, maintain ongoing communication with assigned students, and support KPC goals for student retention, academic success, and graduation.Essential
50%50% VETERAN STUDENT SERVICES Serve as the KPC representative to current and prospective active duty, military and Veteran students. Provide detailed active duty military and VA information in non-regulatory language to the KPC community and prospective students. Coordinate programs and events for KPC Veteran students and the Kenai Peninsula Veteran community. This includes organizing Veterans Day appreciation events, early registration, presentations, and workshops geared towards keeping the Veteran student population up-to-date on their educational benefits and other relevant local, state and federal resources. Manage KPC’s Commemorative Partner Program by responding to inquiries and planning events. Work with current and prospective students to explain the procedures and requirements for obtaining the benefits they are entitled to. This includes coordinating with Kachemak Bay Campus-Homer (KBC) staff and students and occasionally providing services at KBC. Facilitate military and Veteran students’ access to KPC services, such as Disability Support, Financial Aid and Counseling & Advising. Make every effort to ensure military and Veteran students are put in contact with the services they need to be successful. Act as a liaison between community resources and KPC’s Veteran student population. Serve as a member of KPC’s Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). Act as a case manager for Veteran students who are experiencing difficulties. Serve as the School Certifying Official (SCO) for KPC. Certify benefits for all military and Veteran students taking KPC courses. Attend trainings and keep up-to-date on developments with the policies and processes governing certification and benefits. Utilize the VA Work-study program by recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training and supervising up to two VA students per semester.Essential

KPC is seeking an organized, analytical and self-motivated professional to oversee Veteran student services and assist in onboarding first-year students. Ideal candidates will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

This position must be able to work as an influential member of a larger, collaborative team with diverse populations and personalities.
Ability to work with discretion and the capacity to maintain the strictest of confidentiality.
Excellent computer skills with various software programs to include databases, spreadsheets, and word processing programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred).
Needs to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and complex organizational structure that demands employees to be flexible and adaptable.
Knowledge of best practices, federal and state laws and legal issues associated with and applicable to student services and higher education.
Knowledge of marketing/advertising principles.
Ability to apply theories gained through experience and education.
Ability to supervise.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
Two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Demonstrated experience in working with individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
Experience working with Veteran or military databases and/or familiarity with Veteran education benefits.
Experience with the Banner data warehouse, or ability to train within one month of hire.

Preference given to Veterans or applicants with experience working directly with Veteran or military populations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
Bachelor’s degree in related field and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:
KPC is seeking an organized, energetic, and self-motivated Veteran Student Services Coordinator to oversee the Veteran program at KPC, assist with recruitment efforts and college events, and to welcome, onboard and support new and prospective students.

Full-time, 12-month, range 78, beginning hourly wage $23.84 (DOE), non-exempt, term-funded, starting in December 2020.
