Position Summary:

Are you looking for a part time job in which you can use and hone your clerical or administrative skills? The University of Alaska Fairbanks Community and Technical College may be the place for you. UAF CTC is looking for temporary clerical assistants to provide faculty and staff with general administrative support for our programs. We offer 40 associate degrees, certificates, and occupational endorsements at 9 locations throughout Fairbanks and the Tanana Valley of Interior Alaska. UAF CTC is responsive to local and regional vocational and technical training needs, and focuses on workforce development to meet the needs of the region and the state. UAF CTC's programs also provide students with the academic framework to help them achieve their higher education goals, whether it is to complete and associate of arts degree or transfer to a baccalaureate program. Available hours and specific duties vary depending on the program or unit assigned. Duties:

100Provide clerical and administrative support for various departments of the UAF Community & Technical College, which may include, filing, copying, faxing, composing letters and memos, spreadsheet creation and maintenance, creation of reports, fliers or signs using word processing or publishing software, log maintenance, assistance with accounts payable/receivable duties, minor purchasing duties, PC data entry, records maintenance and cash handling duties. Process incoming and outgoing intercampus mail as well as federal mail including preparation of expedited letters and packages. Receive and distribute vendor expedited service deliveries. Assist with special projects as assigned by various staff and faculty. Perform courier duties for daily errands to various University and non-University locations. Research, as assigned, using the BANNER system. Assist in preparation/clean up for special events and functions for UAF CTC. Act as receptionist and first point of contract with clientèle by telephone and in person, answering questions on programs, policies and procedures.Essential

In addition, UAF CTC provides career training and development opportunities through workforce development and professional development programs. Staff and faculty have forged close ties with businesses and local agencies, enhancing instruction and increasing job placements.

UAF CTC employs a diverse population of approximately 30 full-time faculty and 300 adjunct faculty who are represented by two unions and a staff of about 35. Approximately 3000 students attend UAF CTC. They are culturally diverse and include many non-traditional students and students from the military community.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Knowledge of office practices and procedures; excellent writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar for correspondence and reports. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work independently; attention to detail; determine priorities; meet multiple deadlines and have basic fiscal skills. Previous experience working with the public. Ability to operate a multi-line phone system.

Candidate must have demonstrated proficiency with MS products (Excel, MS Word) and various e-mail clients, ability to use computer scheduling programs, websites/Internet Explorer and ability to send and download electronic documents through the Internet.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Varies based on the temporary clerical support needed.

Ability to perform delegated administrative and clerical duties to meet established deadlines.

Ability to courteously handle and deal with a wide variety of public contact both on the telephone and in person and work cooperatively with a wide variety of people.

Knowledge of office practices and procedures.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times.

6 months to 3 years office/administrative experience or equivalent and experience working with the public.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

High school diploma or equivalent.

This position varies in salary based on the position and duties hired for, Temp salary scale Grade 71 (10.07/hr) to Grade 84 (36.98/hr).
