Position Summary:

As our Graduate Assistant for Men's & Women's Cross Country, you will assist the Head Coach with the scouting and recruiting of future student athletes. Apply today to join our Nanook's athletics!

Duties:

100Assists the Head Coach with the scouting and recruiting of future student athletes. Includes following all NCAA, conference and University regulations and guidelines; assessing athletic talent and academic performance of potential student athletes; determining who meets the athletic requirements and University academic standards; and coordinating scholarships per the University’s approved model. TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

One year collegiate playing experience.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Bachelor’s Degree. Must be enrolled in a UAF master’s degree program for the extent of the Graduate Assistantship. *3.0 GPA required.

Assistantship Requirements
• Domestic students who accept an Assistantship must be enrolled in at least 6 credits.
• International students in F-1 or J-1 status MUST be enrolled full-time, 9 credits.
-- Graduating international students may request a reduction in courses credit in their FINAL semester. If employed as a student worker, International students must still meet the 6 credit minimum requirements.
• Audited classes do not count towards registration requirements.
• Students working 21 – 40 hours per week during the summer semester are by default considered in taxable status and are exempt from summer registration requirements.

Grade Point Average Requirement
• Graduate Assistants are expected to maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.
• A Graduate Assistant with a GPA of less than 3.0, satisfactory academic progress (SAP), may submit an appeal to the Financial Aid Office.

Additional position details:

Seeking applicants prepared to make a two-year commitment in good faith.

This assistantship includes:

  • Bi-weekly stipend through payroll

  • A tuition scholarship for up to 10 credits per semester

  • Payment of departmental/course specific fees and university required fees

  • Payment of graduate student health insurance

  • Minimum of one-year (off-campus) housing

Students who receive an assistantship are not permitted to engage in other employment (within or outside the university) and each student is limited to a 20-hour workweek during the academic year.

If you anticipate regularly* working over 20 hours/week during your position (or find yourself doing so) you must submit a Graduate Student Workload Exception Request form (PDF).
