Position Summary:

UAA Information Technology Services is seeking a highly qualified individual for our Server Engineering Team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in managing an enterprise server environment, including both physical and virtual servers, storage, and backups. Duties:

10Maintain and operate co-location facilities for physical and virtual servers. Work with customers and other ITS teams to determine technical requirements and service level agreements. Ensure appropriate power, data, cooling, and physical security is maintained. Meet with customers regularly to ensure expectations are being met.Essential
10Utilize Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes for change, incident, problem, and configuration management. Serve as a resource to UAA and community campus teams. Track and monitor assigned work and deadlines. Develop positive relationships with technical staff across the UA system. Develop knowledge, skills, and abilities in the core functions of the Server team and stay abreast of industry changes. Participate in on-call as required. Provide regular status reports and updates to the supervisor. Develop and maintain monitoring and alerts for all Server related critical systems, data center environmental equipment and co-located systems using the department's centralized monitoring system. Troubleshoot Server related outages and restore systems and services as quickly as possible. Other duties as assigned.Essential
15Maintain and operate the university's data center. Ensure power and cooling remain within tolerances. Schedule regular maintenance for power, cooling, fire suppression and environmental monitoring equipment. Keep areas neat and clutter free. Maintain secure access. Adhere to cable management policies and procedures. Perform physical installation and removal of equipment.Essential
30Analyze, design, test, implement, maintain, and document user-oriented and secure file sharing and database solutions. Develop and maintain specialized servers and services including job scheduling, printing, audio/video streaming, digital security systems, virtual desktops, web services, SQL databases and other processes utilizing UAA standard scripting languages. Maintain basic infrastructure level services required for all systems to include load balancing, IP address management, virtualization technologies.Essential
35Analyze, design, test, implement, maintain, and document enterprise server and storage infrastructure required for the university's IT operations including both virtual and physical servers as well as data center focused software defined and physical datacenter networking. Design for automated management, high availability, fault tolerance and security based on standards for integration with other technologies and services. Develop and maintain backup systems for all university data, providing for timely restoral and geographically diverse disaster recovery. Develop and maintain systems and processes for testing and implementing timely server patching. Securely decommission and dispose equipment as required.Essential

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Accountability for project management, typically impacting critical systems involving major work groups to include multiple functional areas; integration of new technologies is also required. 
  • Ability to research and analyze of projects associated with software, hardware, data management, communications, and networks is required. 
  • Ability to integrate new technologies, strong written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated professional knowledge/expertise in functional area(s) for the individual position (e.g. planning, analysis, programming, database administration, research/scientific subject matter specialty,
    communications, security, engineering). 
  • Knowledge/expertise is commensurate with assigned level.

The primary knowledge and skill area for this engineering position is focused on Microsoft and VMWare technologies. Expert Knowledge in the following areas are required:


* VMWare vSphere Suite, Horizon Suite, NSX-T, vSAN, & vROPS
* Windows Server
* Enterprise Storage and related technology concepts (RAID, HCI, iSCSI, Thin/Thick provisioning, Deduplication, File Systems, etc.)
* Physical server technologies (Cisco, Dell, HPE)
* Microsoft clustering services
* Enterprise backups
* Active Directory
* Microsoft PowerShell, .NET Framework
* MS SQL Server
* Design of networks and their inter-relationship with Microsoft technologies
* Microsoft Office
* Microsoft client operating systems
* Microsoft licensing
* Project Management

 
Secondary knowledge and experience areas:
* Microsoft System Center
* PCoIP
* Cisco Nexus platform
* Linux (RHEL/CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu)
* Load balancers
* The individual will be required to carry a cell phone and may participate in an on call rotation

Typical Experience:

Minimum of three to five years of enterprise level systems analysis, design and development experience focused on a Windows environment, strong background in Microsoft Server and VMware.

Required Education or Training:

BS degree that relates to the discipline of Information Technologies or an acceptable combination of education and professional/engineering experience. No specific licenses are required. Microsoft or VMWare professional certification will be required within 1 year of employment. MCSE: ServerInfrastructure preferred. Must acquire MCSE or VMWare certification within one year. Must maintain current level MCSE or VMWare certification.
