Position Summary:

The UAS Sitka Campus invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach in the upcoming Academic Year 2020 in the following content areas: Northwest Coast Arts in the areas of, but not limited to Northwest Coast Design, Carving, Basketry, Weaving, Performance, History and Theory. Help support the new Associates of Arts Degree with an emphasis in Northwest Coast Arts. If you possess a desire to help students succeed in reaching their goals, we encourage you to apply. Adjunct positions are on a semester-by-semester contract basis, and governed by a collective bargaining agreement. Applicants are REQUIRED to be available to work within Alaska during the semester employed. Applications will be reviewed on an as-needed basis. Job posting will remain open through the Academic Year 2021.

Duties:

100Prepare syllabus; teach one or more courses consistent with student learning outcomes and assessment methods developed for Northwest Coast (NWC) Arts classes; design curriculum; prepare lesson plans; evaluate student learning; provide timely feedback to students; hold office hours or be available for contact with students.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Advanced knowledge of Traditional Visual Arts of the Tlingit, Tsimshian and Haida First Nations. Demonstrated skills in teaching preferred. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Experience relevant to effectively teach in content area. Demonstrated involvement in teaching community workshops, artist demonstrations, apprenticeships/mentorships, museum fellows, research artist is highly encouraged.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Masters, Bachelors or equivalent experience are all eligible.
