Position Summary:

The UAS Ketchikan Campus is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor of Science to teach a range of science classes primarily addressing the needs of students seeking preparation for further study in the allied health fields as well as to meet general education requirements. This is a 9-month, tenure track faculty position covered by a collective bargaining agreement. This position requires the successful candidate to work on the Ketchikan campus.

Duties:

100%Teach a range of science classes primarily addressing the needs of students seeking preparation for further study in the allied health fields as well as to meet general education requirements. Mentor and supervise graduate students. Teach one or more undergraduate courses in a manner consistent with the specific course content description. Hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught. Be proactive in developing and modifying curriculum for delivery and other teaching modalities. The UAS Ketchikan Campus is seeking applicants to teach a range of science classes primarily addressing the needs of students seeking preparation for further study in the allied health fields as well as to meet general education requirements. A Master’s of Science in Biology or related life sciences field is required. Preferred PhD in Biology or related field. Two to three years of teaching experience with a variety of teaching resources, media and technologies, including computer-aided instruction. Experience with e-learning is preferred. Must have a broad based background that enables them to teach biology (specifically anatomy and physiology) and other natural sciences. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership for the science program including community based science education programs. Evidence of the ability to work effectively with non-traditional and/or under prepared students, and successful teaching experience in science. The applicant must provide evidence of experience with a variety of teaching resources, media and technologies, including computer-aided instruction. Manage and teach the core general education science offerings, including both campus based and e-learning classes.

Start date is January 4, 2021. This is a nine-month, tenure track, Assistant Professor position covered by a collective bargaining agreement complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package. The position requires the successful candidate to work on the Ketchikan campus.
