Position Summary:

UAS is seeking applicants for a CT3 Plumbing/HVAC Technician position. This position routinely performs journey-level work in the operation, inspection, service, maintenance, repair and alteration of UAS facilities and associated systems, with specific emphasis in plumbing, heating and ventilation systems and associated pneumatic, electric and automated controls.

Duties:

100%Performs plumber/pipefitter duties, including certified pipe welding to repair and install piping systems and equipment. Administers computerized building control system/energy management functions; restores and reprograms computerized building control sequences in conformance to management specifications and applicable codes. Inspects maintenance and construction projects for conformance to management specifications and codes. Inspects, maintains, and operates refrigeration systems including routine and emergency repairs. Plans, develops, and interprets specifications and assembly/support of complex research equipment, including materials, methods of construction, and sequence of operation or monitoring equipment. Ensures that hazards are removed from buildings and grounds including snow, ice, debris, animal wastes, construction materials, and other items as required. Demonstrates appropriate work methods to other employees including proper safety measures. Inspects, diagnoses malfunctions and repairs vehicle and equipment emission control systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and all pertinent governing regulations.Essential

This position routinely performs journey-level work in the operation, inspection, service, maintenance, repair and alteration of UAS facilities and associated systems, with specific emphasis in plumbing, heating and ventilation systems and associated pneumatic, electric and automated controls.  

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • General knowledge of standards, principles, codes, methods, materials, tools, equipment and best practices used in all aspects of building operations, maintenance and repair
  • Strong background in domestic and waste water distribution
  • Strong background in mechanical systems in areas such as heating, ventilation, cooling, electrical, and automated building controls
  • Ability to operate snow removal equipment on as needed-basis.
  • Work from work orders, operation and maintenance manuals, blue prints, shop drawings, diagrams and written instructions.
  • Alaska Driver’s license required

Experience

  • Five years of commercial type building plumbing with an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to qualify for the Alaska Department of Labor Plumber's Certificate of Fitness examination.
  • Experience working successfully with people of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds is preferred

Education/Training

  • Alaska Journeyman Plumber Certificate, or combination of education/apprenticeship sufficient to qualify for Alaska Department of Labor Plumber's Certificate of Fitness examination
  • Boiler Operator Certificate of Fitness 2nd Class or higher is preferred
  • Fire hydrant test and inspection certification is preferred
  • Experience with automated building controls is preferred
  • Freon certificate is preferred
  • First Aid certificate is preferred
  • Asbestos hazard awareness training is preferred.
  • Hazmat training is preferred.
