Position Summary:

The UAA Advancement team is looking for a driven, innovative user experience design leader with deep knowledge and passion for the student experience in higher education. This leader will be responsible for leading the evolution of UAA’s web presence, as well as owning and representing the web-focused digital student experience at UAA, its community campuses. With multiple stakeholders, the A D post is complex and will require a seasoned leader with experience leading and managing teams across large organizations. The AD will build a web governance structure for UAA and lead that group, which is advisory to the Chancellor and Cabinet. The AD will define objectives and priorities for UAA’s web presence and will have the authority to develop and execute a strategic plan for UAA’s web site. Responsible for $200k annual budget. The AD will work with a cross functional group of stakeholders including students, faculty and staff to review and map the student digital experience while working with system owners to ensure the experience is well designed and intentional. Responsibility includes thinking through the student journey in close collaboration with administrators, customer service experts and developers to create a seamless service experience. The AD will review web analytics frequently to ensure program effectiveness and to identify opportunities for web site enhancement. An expert advisor, this position will help change the web culture at UAA by orienting UAA’s web site(s) to student recruitment and retention. Ensuring ADA compliance of all UAA’s digital content is inherent in this post’s responsibilities.

Provides user experience direction to a broad audience, and contributes at a high level during all phases of an interactive project. Provides oversight and stewardship of the UAA brand on digital platforms.Essential
25Presents work to internal teams and leaders, clearly articulating design rationale. Collaborates within the technical and functional teams by working reciprocally and sharing standard methodologies. Produces clear documentation for marketing pages and student experiences. These may include sitemaps, wireframes and prototypes. Iterates rapidly as ideas emerge and priorities change to meet the needs of the institution.Essential
30Owns and represents the digital web-focused student experience at UAA, providing guidance to authors and facilitating change for the benefit of students. Owns and maintains a set of recently developed student-centered cross-university marketing pages.Essential
5Builds new and develops on existing positive relationships across disciplines with functional owners, designers, developers, and creative technologists. Brings ideas to the table and collaborates effectively with system owners, advancement personnel, developers, administrators, faculty, students and cross functional teams to develop clear proposals for student focused solutions.Essential

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge of Web technologies, user-focused design, and industry standards/best practice.

Required Experience:

Understanding of university systems, the student experience and the higher ed environment.
Ability to synthesize complex, interdependent, and sometimes competing needs
Proven track record of leading a broad team of professionals, track record of successful collaboration in a complex organizational environment
Effective communication of design solutions across roles & levels
Awareness and practical understanding of current technologies and their application and relevance to digital experiences
Understanding of responsive web & mobile application design and wireframe development
Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented, cross-functional environment
Ability to influence others and provide thought leadership on design
Demonstrated fiscal management skills
Ability to analyze, forecast and advise management on budget
Ability to advise senior-level university administrators on short and long-range strategic and tactical planning
Ability to develop and implement policy appropriate to the communications program
Ability to serve as a spokesperson, if needed

Typical Education or Training:

Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Computer Science, Information Science, or commerce/business Library Science, Human Computer Interaction, or related field and six years of progressively responsible experience relevant to the program or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master’s degree in related field preferred.

Term Position:

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
