Position Summary:

INTERNAL Recruitment-The UAA National Resource Center for Alaska Native Elders is recruiting a Communications Specialist to increase its capacity to engage in routine communication with its partners, stakeholders and constituencies across Alaska. Under general supervision by the Director and Co-Director of the NRC ANE, this position engages in routine communication tasks, especially those pertaining to social media and the center’s web presence. Additionally, the position assists the center administrators in undertaking targeted campaigns for the purposes of diffusion or dissemination of research and in undertaking specific assignments involving the administrators’ preparation of media products and programs.

Duties:

100%1. Perform routine communication and social media tasks. 2. Assist supervisors in managing the currency of all communication platforms. 3. Under direction of supervisors, undertake routine tasks in updating the web presence of the NRC ANE. 4. Respond to general communication requests and inquiries, particularly by customers of the NRC ANE. 5. Follow communication procedures and rules established by the administrators of the NRC ANE. 6. Collect data and information to assist supervisors in advancing communication within Alaska Native communities. 7. Work process communication materials under the direction of supervisors. 8. Maintain data base on communication activities and products undertaken by NRC ANE administrators.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Knowledge of computer operations. Knowledge of video and audio recording equipment, software, techniques, and best practices. Ability to write clearly and accurately. Ability to follow applicable policies, rules, regulations and ethical practices. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to update web pages through a CMS. Knowledge of accessibility best practices. Knowledge of social media platforms.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • High School graduation
  • One year experience working in media in higher education
  • Knowledge of computer operations
  • Ability to write clearly and accurately
  • Ability to follow applicable policies, rules, and regulations
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ethical awareness, especially in maintenance of confidentiality
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

One year experience working in media in higher education or an equivalent combination of training and experience

TYPICAL EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

High School graduation and one year relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred:

  • Associate's degree in journalism, media, communications, or closely related field
  • Experience in working with human service, social work, and/or behavioral health education

Position Specifics:
Minimum Salary: $16.99/hr
Term Funded, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year, Non-exempt, complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.

Term Position:

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
