The University of Alaska seeks a Controller for a very unique opportunity at the UA Foundation which seeks to solicit, manage and invest donations for the exclusive benefit of the University of Alaska. The Controller position is responsible for all accounting functions at the University of Alaska Foundation. The UA Foundation supports fundraising activities of university development offices and serves as the conduit for private gifts to the university. We invite you to join our customer focused team!
10 Investments (Consolidated Endowment Fund):
Uses endowment management software to track ownership interests and allocate investment returns/fees to individual endowments invested in the Fund on a periodic basis as directed;
Verifies monthly capital contributions and withdrawals to/from the Fund;
Calculates the annual spending allowance for endowed funds. Essential
10 Tax & Regulatory Compliance:
Coordinates preparation and filing of applicable federal and state tax returns for the UA Foundation;
Responsible for providing information to ensure complete and accurate filings;
Coordinates charitable solicitation registrations in states where the UA Foundation conducts fundraising activities;
Maintains the UA Foundation’s nonprofit corporate registration with the State of Alaska. Essential
Responsible for the preparation of the UA Foundation’s financial statements in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principals;
Leads accounting staff in completing audit support schedules and work papers;
Periodically evaluates accounting estimates and maintains proper internal controls to ensure the financial statements are free from material misstatements; Essential
5 Budget Management:
Assists with the UA Foundation’s annual operating budget development process;
Responsible for setup and maintenance of departmental budgets and reports in accounting software;
Manages operating budget for Foundation Accounting department;
Responds to budget questions and helps to interpret accounting information for non-financial managers. Essential
5 Process Improvement:
Assists in developing solutions and providing problem resolutions for customers of the UA Foundation; Promotes collaboration between accounting and other departments; Takes initiative to streamline accounting processes and engages accounting staff in continual process improvement;
Responsible for accounting department’s key performance indicators. Essential
Reviews journal vouchers and reconciliations prepared by accounting staff;
Oversees month-end closing process to ensure completeness, accuracy, classification, and timeliness of accounting transactions;
Provides day-to-day guidance, training and direction to accounting staff;
Responsible for accounting software setup and administration;
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance. Essential

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND/OR TRAINING:
4 years of progressively responsible professional fiscal experience in nonprofit accounting;
3 years in a supervisory role with hiring, training, and performance evaluation responsibilities
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or equivalent experience. MBA preferred. CPA or other professional certification also preferred.
This is a full-time,
Grade 81, minimum $30.56/hr, DOE, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
